Package Description
While training in a flight simulator, test pilot Hal “Highball” Jordan was suddenly transported to the crash site of an alien spacecraft. Recognizing Jordan as a man without fear, the injured alien passed to Jordan his green power ring and energy battery or “lantern” which charged the ring. Jordan has since used the ring’s fantastic powers for good, distinguishing himself as one of the finest members of the elite intergalactic police force known as the Green Lantern Corps.
Appearance
Hal has a generic DCUC body, with only a new hand and new head sculpt. The sculpt seems just about perfect for him though. While the buff body isn’t really similar to the classic drawing style of Hal, it does resemble the more modern bulky drawing style in addition to fitting in stylistically with other DCUC figures. The sculpt is smooth and without awkward cuts or obvious joints. The green color on the torso was also an excellent choice, and has a slight paint wash. The green on the legs and shoulders is a slightly different color from the torso, but it’s not really noticeable on the figure unless you’re looking for it or up close. I don’t consider it a problem at all.
There’s not a lot of texture to the figure, but the paint wash helps. The only part of the figure that has a mentionable amount of detail is the head, with waves sculpted into the hair an a square, hard chin. I’m getting a tired of the facial expression though, which is the same on virtually every figure. At least Hal’s is a little more distinct with some sculpted in cheek bones which looks like he’s clenching his jaw a little. The ring looks just like a blob; some more detail in the ring would have been nice if superfluous. Lastly, paint application is something to check for when buying this figure, as series 3 has had some problems. Overall, this figure looks excellent with only a few very minor flaws.
Articulation
Hal has standard DCUC articulation and range of motion. It would be nice if the arms would hang closer to his sides, because the huge back muscles prevent it. He has the same improved head articulation as Blue/Red Supman, and his torso can similarly move far back for great flying poses. Balance is generally good.
Poseability
Hal looks great with his fellow Justice League members. Having read some of the comics, it’s a little odd that Sinestro is shorter than Hal, but it does add some variety to the DCUC shelf. Hal has some great poses he can do, especially if you can display him flying. Hal is a solid figure that’ll look good on the shelf whether posed by himself or with others.
Final Judgment: 8
There’s not really anything to complain about with Hal. He excels in all areas despite the generic DCUC body and style. This is a must have for any Green Lantern fan. But for successfully meeting high expectations, his score is going to get bumped up a little higher than other figures to an 8.
