Marvel Knights: Spider-Man #13
For those who have not been following the Marvel Universe for a while, a lot has changed recently. One character that has been through a lot of changes is everyone’s favorite Web-Slinging hero, Spider-Man. He isn’t the same as he used to be. The character now has organic web-shooters. No more witty comments on having to make the web fluid. He has also become an Avenger again. Recently, his house has been destroyed and has moved into the Avengers headquarters bringing his wife and Aunt along. So how is this having an impact on the life of Spider-Man? This book goes into that.
In MK: Spidey #13, we get a good look at how Spider-Man is adjusting to his new life as an Avenger. From the looks of it, so far it isn’t as great as it would seem. It seems Peter can’t get a moment alone with his loved ones like he used to. To make matters worse, he comes home to see Wolverine talking to his wife. And we know how Logan likes red heads. This leads to an argument between the two. Of course this gets handled later, but I don’t want to spoil anything.
There are some other great things that happened in the title as well. As usually, Peter has bad luck with his job as a teacher due to his duties as Spider-Man. On his way to work, he has a run in with Absorbing Man, who isn’t feeling well. This leads to him being late to his job which doesn’t turn out to well. There is also a new reporter at the Daily Bugle. We get a small hint that there may be more to this new reporter that meets the eye.
The overall story was great, presented quite nicely. It made any new Spidey fan or new coming readers feel comfortable jumping on this story so far. I’ll be the first to admit, I’m not even much of a Spider-Man fan. The character doesn’t even interest me as much as it does for others. That is why I am surprised by how great part one was for me.
Hudlin has been on a roll with his Black Panther title so far. Now he is making a name for himself as well on this title. So far, Hudlin has really impressed me. He is a great writer, and I hope he gets to write other titles in the future. (we all know Bendis writes half of Marvel)
Tan is the kind of artist that is either hit or miss for me. So far, I love his take on the characters presented in this issue. I will admit his Aunt May did look a little off to me, but other then that the art is great.
To put an end to my review, I am giving this title an 8.5/10 here. It’s a perfect jump on point for anyone who wanted to jump on a Spider-Man title.
