August 12, 2024
Deadline has reported that James Wan is currently in preliminary discussions to direct The Creature From the Black Lagoon for Atomic Monster and Universal Pictures. This project would mark Wan's first film following the merger of his Atomic Monster production company with Blumhouse. He is working on a contemporary retelling that emphasizes visceral horror while honoring the legacy of the original classic.

Wan will be responsible for producing the film under the Atomic Monster label, with Michael Clear and Judson Scott serving as executive producers. Jay Polidoro, the Executive Vice President of Production Development, will supervise the project on behalf of Universal.

Anytime I see or hear someone remaking an ip say they will honor the original I usually roll my eyes and shake my head. But I hope its good if it gets made.
