It's been three years since the last all-new Metal Gear Solid game, MGS2: Sons of Liberty, hit the PlayStation 2. In that time, there have been various remakes of installments in the series, including Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance, which was basically a remix of Sons of Liberty for the PC, PS2, and Xbox, and Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes, a GameCube-exclusive remake of the original Metal Gear Solid.
Now, series creator Hideo Kojima is taking the series back--several decades back--for the latest entry in the franchise, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. Unlike previous MGSs, whose cryptic plots invariably involved the superweapon known as Metal Gear, Snake Eater is set during the 1960s, at the apex of the Cold War. While it too will involve a weapon of mass destruction, the game will focus much more on the series' survival action elements.
As one might guess, Snake Eater will involve hero Snake (voiced again by David Hayter) eating various reptiles and vermin to survive as he's sent on a mission deep behind enemy lines. Players will have to maintain their strength by eating and treating wounds in a realistic fashion. Snake will also have a wardrobe of different camouflage outfits, allowing him blend into the various wilderness environments he must negotiate in pursuit of his mission objective.
Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater is a PlayStation 2 exclusive, it's rated M, and it retails for $49.99.
