Gran Turismo 4 Delayed
December 28 in Japan, next year in America.

Despite having trumpeted the game's completion at a splashy launch event last week, Sony Computer Entertainment has delayed the Japanese release of Gran Turismo 4 once again. The new racing sim from Polyphony Digital, as well as the accompanying PlayStation 2 Racing Pack hardware bundle and Nike One shoe/T-shirt bundle, will now hit Japanese store shelves on December 28.
The game was originally scheduled for release on December 3. Today's announcement from SCE states that "more adjustments remained" than the developers had assumed, necessitating the extra development time. "I didn't want to release it this way," said Polyphony Digital director Kazunori Yamauchi.
GT4 was expected to arrive in North America a little less than two weeks after its Japanese release, on December 14. Now, however, it's been pushed back to the first quarter of 2005, to accomodate the extra development and localization time tacked on by the delay in Japan.
Despite the delay, gamers will eventually get much more game content than was originally promised when the game was announced in 2003. Though Sony cut the game's online racing mode from the feature list earlier this fall, the finished game will include more than 700 cars (compared to the 500 originally promised).
We'll have a full report on the Japanese version when it arrives late next month, and as soon as a new North American date is set, expect the news as soon as possible.
