'Industriacide' Creator Turns Up The Heat With 'Fervor'

Lynnwood, WA - September 29, 2005: Sean Dietrich, the twisted mind that brought you the critically-acclaimed dytopic epic “Industriacide,” once again skewers the seedy underbelly of American culture with his latest story, “Fervor,” released this month through Rorschach Entertainment.

Dietrich, whose art has been frequently compared to Jhonen Vasquez, Roman Dirge and Arthur Suydam, uses his poetic storytelling and disturbing yet luxurious artwork to once again blur reality as he explores the dark and violent fantasies of one of the “have nots.”

The book “is about an obese girl who needs to daydream of destroying those who would never accept her in the real world to keep her sane,” said Dietrich. The story is based on a piece of short fiction Dietrich composed years ago following a call girl who, high on cocaine, would pick up and later murder swinging couples in their own beds.

As usual, Dietrich uses an intense combination of sledgehammer brutality and scalpel subtlety to twist a tale of lost souls and overwhelming sadness and isolation. “Fervor” tears into pop culture concepts of cocaine and thinness; the terrible lengths human beings will go to in order to support their vanity; and “the deconstruction of another human being’s mental stability through constant degradation because of their physical appearance,” said Dietrich.

The place he calls home offered the author plenty of ammunition as he took aim at the beautiful people.

“I live in southern California,” said Dietrich. “There’s a lot of inspiration all around in terms of hollow, vanity-driven, useless people. ‘Fervor’ talks about how stupid it is when trendy, hyper-confident people feel they are better than those they look down on as less than perfect.”

In his three-year hiatus from comics, Dietrich has conjured up concept art for Sony Playstation and is currently providing artwork for a horror film produced by Cherry Road Films. He can also be seen in live painting events in and around San Diego, where he paints as live DJs spin tracks in the background.
