Mattel posted this statement on their website this week:

"Toy Fans,

We know there have been some quality-related issues over the last few months and wanted to tell you we take them seriously and what is being done to address them.

We've recently met with our suppliers and shared some of your concerns. Like all manufacturers, our production practices are proprietary but we can tell you that a number of critical topics were covered, including new ideas to improve production quality consistency, reviewing our materials development process, additional design review steps, more stringent testing, and supplementary technician training.

Please know that we do listen to your comments and they are important to us. In fact, during the meeting we presented some of the comments from our Fan Forums so everyone could better understand the issues were seeing at the consumer end. We're working as hard as we can to improve processes, and because we consider this of critical importance, its at the top of our to do list."
