in a
recent interview, Mattel's
PJ Lewis revealed that they are going to soon be bringing us our first
Masterverse 7" scale playset which will likely be revealed this week during
SDCC.
Lewis: Rob, stay tuned for more. Let’s just say we certainly have detailed plans to expand Masterverse into 2023 and 2024 and beyond. As for something more specific, as some of our large format action figures soar, we’re also going to be introducing a specific playset that anchors the line which is going to be pretty fun. You’ll see more on that at Comic-Con, I hope.
From the cryptic description of this playset in the interview, it makes one believe it could be a new playset featuring
Castle Grayskull. I mean what else would anchor a Masters of the Universe line other than the iconic Grayskull?
If a new Grayskull playset is in the works, the next question is what version? Would it be based on the Kevin Smith Netflix Revelation series, or maybe even a New Eternia Concept Art version? Also how would Mattel release such a massive playset. Likely not at general retail. The previous
Classics Grayskull which was a similar scale to Masterverse was offered through Mattel's now defunct
MattyCollector website. This one my guess would be crowdsourced through the
MattelCreations website like we saw
Mattel do last year for their
WWE New Generation Ring.
If such a crowdsourcing project is coming, I don't know if its something Mattel would show off at Comic-Con tonight for
Preview Night, or wait until their big
Masters of the Universe 40th Anniversary Fan Panel in Hall H, which takes place tomorrow (7/21 at 3pm PT. Either way we will be sure to bring you more details when or if they become available.
