2008 JoeCon: Hasbro Marketing: 2008 Mainline Projects

by Jay Cochran
June 27, 2008
Here are the highlights from today's Hasbro panel at the G.I.Joe Convention.

- Tomorrow they will unveil something big for the Spring 2009. Something you thought you would never seen.

- Hasbro thanks you for your loyalty to the 25th Anniversary line.

- They (Hasbro) are all fans to; they read the boards and your questions.

- Big questions???? Will Hasbro release the last of the original 13 before the movie? YES.

- Where is Quick Kick? He is here.

- Large vehicles, will they do them? Can't promise a Flagg or Terrordrome, but there will be some large ones on the way.

- What happens to the 25th Anniversary Line in 2009?

- Not much new for the movie will be shown at this convention, but it will be awesome. Filming is complete!

- The movie will be an origin type story. We will see things like the origin of Cobra Commander and lots of ninja action From Snake-Eyes and Storm Shadow. According to Hasbro the movie will rock.

- Movie toys will be 3 3/4" scale with many familiar characters that have new looks.

- In 2008 Duke (Tiger Force) will be coming out. He will have fixed arms.

- Mercenary Wraith from the DDP comic book series is coming. There will also be a transparent variant figure.

- Mutt and Junkyard, Cobra Para-Viper and Croc Master are on the way as well.

- The Pyramid of Darkness DVD set will come with Major Bludd, Quick Kick, Cobra Commander and Snake-Eyes. The Arise Serpentor Arise DVD set will come with Dusty, Classic Serpentor, a B.A.T. and a skeleton figure.

- For 12" figures we will see Snake-Eyes, Storm Shadow and Torpedo. Also Look for Duke, Cobra Commander and Beach Head.

- Also on tap for 2008 will be the new Combat Heroes 2-packs. Look for Snake-Eyes/Zartan and Bazooka/Firefly.

- If a Terrordrome were to be made then the Firebat would be able to fit in it according to Hasbro.

- The line that we know today as the 25th Anniversary will be put on hold while the movie toys come out. We will continue to see characters that are familiar in the same sculpting style as the current line but with more of a movie look. We may however see some exclusives and such during that period with a more classic feel.

- EA is working on a G.I.Joe movie video game. EA is working very closely with Hasbro on it. They are taking some of the storylines and putting them in the game but it's not like you have to go watch the movie and then play the movie. No word if its a first person shooter yet or not.

Panel ends.

I actually wouldn't want a terrordrome but a flagg, or defiant? yeah. I have a terrordrome (well a husk of one anyways) and it isn't ath great for display, and for some reason after i read about them in the comic, i liked them even less. I'd love to see something new and smaller for cobra. I'd be happy with just rooms that connect together. That would be best.

As a side note, I'll retract my comment about the TF Duke arms. The pics I was looking at seemed to still have that ridiculous mid-forearm swivel... which it appears he does not. I'm ecstatic about this figure now. I honestly hope they give us a 'classic colors' Duke with these new arms, even though we've had several classic Duke figures. I know I'd happily spend the money for it.

Most of this 'news' is stuff we already knew... but all the same, at least Hasbro is trying to keep up the flow of information.

I do hope that Duke isn't indicative of Hasbro's concept of 'fixed' Duke arms.

And this isn't normally something I pick on, but there are some atrocious spelling errors in this news item. The 'Flaff'? How about those 'vehicels', eh?

Although if 'Torpedoe' really can ride on the bottom of the SHARC, that means it's been remolded. Interesting... you'd think Hasbro would just reuse the same mold they had on the shelves a few months ago. On one hand, I applaud them for updating it to be compatible with the figures, but on the other hand, this just seems to be another example of 'too many changes'- if they hadn't monkeyed with the backs of the figures, this wouldn't be something they needed to change to begin with.

Your a moron dude. They are typing these things live in the dark at these comic panels trying to bring someone like you sitting on your ass the information that is released as soon as possible and all you can do it just #$#@# and complain about some typos.

Hi, it's 2008. I have spellcheck. How 'bout you?

These are not simple fan threads, they are news items posted on TNI/ENI. For someone to take the news on this site seriously, it helps to make it look professional. At worst, the people who are reporting are acting as amateur journalists, and I'm attempting to make a point about professionalism. If I were in their place with so many people reading the news I posted, and no one pointed out glaring mistakes like the ones I noted, I'd be ticked when I finally noticed them. I'd wonder just how many people were paying attention.

And quite frankly, your claim that all I did was complain about typos is far from accurate, as is your assumption that I'm stupid, ungrateful, and lazy. I'm left wondering what exactly your problem is when that's the first assumption you jump to. I made no assumptions about WHY the typos existed, but there is a certain level of quality that Jay and his crew have led me to expect in the news they provide. I was surprised not to see it, so I said so. How they respond and what they do as a result is up to them. Again, I said nothing that I wouldn't want said to me, were I in their semi-professional shoes.

Y'know, I would be surprised if we did not get a Terrordrome during this Joe cycle. They are giving big hints here and there, the movie will allow the opportunity to get out there, and Hasbro has been more daring as of late in putting out larger fan desired vehicles for its Star Wars line (BMF, AT-TE). I mean, c'mon, they are practically teasing us with that announcement of the Firebat would be able to fit. Its on their agenda, I just know it.
