Hasbro has released an official press release for this item. NOTE that the press release states the figure should be available for pre-order NOW on Walmart's website. As I post this the figure has not yet been made available on the website. So it's unclear when exactly the Walmart version will be up for pre-order. If you miss out at Walmart there will be another one offered at select etailers in October. Read on for more details:

Great Scott! Hasbro, Inc. (NASDAQ:HAS), Universal Brand Development and Amblin Entertainment today revealed the first-ever TRANSFORMERS-Back to the Future Collaboration, starring the all new character GIGAWATT. This new time-traveling TRANSFORMERS AUTOBOT commemorates 35 years since the groundbreaking adventure film, Back to the Future, took audiences back in time.

When fans of the iconic Back to the Future Time Machine look a little closer at this nostalgic interpretation of the car, they will be treated to a new “robot in disguise” named GIGAWATT, a converting time machine robot. The figure stands at 5.5 inches in Robot mode and can convert to Time Machine mode in 17 steps, plus it includes a blaster and whip antennae accessories, and features movie-inspired details from the film, including Doc Brown-style goggles, a flux capacitor chest piece, and time circuits. In time machine mode, the gullwing doors open and wheels rotate from vertical to horizontal to produce a hovering effect as seen at the end of the film.

In addition to the collectible figure, from IDW comes Transformers / Back to the Future – the four-part, comic book series. The first issue cover is being revealed today, along with the story synopsis: Marty McFly has just returned to his home sweet home, Hill Valley 1985, and everything's looking up... that is, until Marty and his friend Doc Brown's time machine attracts the attention of the Decepticons! With one small mistake, Marty finds himself thrust into adventure to stop the Decepticon plot in the past, present, and future... all with the help of a new time machine: the Autobot, Gigawatt!

TRANSFORMERS robots have always been more than meets the eye, but now, through the TRANSFORMERS Collaborative, fans can experience these larger than life characters as they team-up, mash-up, and meet up with other characters, teams and people who share this same special quality. It is a world of constant change where things are not what they seem.

The GIGAWATT figure is available now for pre-order at Walmart.com with only 1,985 pieces available that feature an exclusive, limited edition numbered package in honor of the 35th anniversary of the first film’s release – July 3, 1985. A second variant release of the figure will be available starting October 1, 2020 via select retailers around the world; part one of the comic book also will be available October 1, wherever comic books are sold.

Another nightmare Walmart presale, luckily this will be easy to get at all retailers by November.

Now with images

Not bad, but I'm a bit on the fence about this one. Ectotron was an awesome looking figure, the alt mode was very accurate and the robot mode looked nice (I regret not getting it when I had the chance). In this case, I'm not really liking the look of the windshield, don't know what that is supposed to be, may be explained in the comics, but I'd have rather they gave him a colored windshield. As for the robot mode, he's quite blocky, not too bad, but that appealing really. Guess I'll have to wait and see some reviews so I can make up my mind.

The "mech-tech" windshield gives a "Mad Max" vibe to the Delorean. But, Hasbro should've given a plastic insert to simulate the glass pannel instead of collectors making one. It's just lazy. Unless the comics gives us a logicalreason behind the design.

I am with you. It does not look as good in robot form.

This looks really cool, love the concept. While I love Back To the Future I don't love Transformers enough to want to get this which works well since apparently this was the latest in pre-order disasters this year.

Agreed the robot mode does not look as great as the car mode!

The Dalorean Alt mode looks really nice, but I'm afraid I find the bot mode disappointing in execution. Maybe I'll change my mind once I see reviews, but at this point I'm just not digging it enough to pre order. It's too bad because I thought the idea sounded awesome.

No its not. But there are those who pay lots of money for things like that. Not my thing and could care less since I open my stuff, but there are those who do.

I am actually one of those you refer to. I do collect variants, but this just does not seem like a "variant" to me. Make the variant something like...streaks of fire come out the back or are extras in the box.

It came and went in seconds.

Dont really collect tf figures, but for some collectors this seems to be a nice figure, I dont think many would really "need" to have those Walmart exclusive ones, aside from diehard fans I see most people waiting for the regular release.
