The Walking Dead executive producer Angela Kang recently spoke with
Entertainment Weekly about the new changes coming up in the new season of The Walking Dead when it returns in October. Kang is taking over showrunning duties from Scott M. Gimple and is looking for a fresh start.
“We’re really looking at the start of a new chapter of the show,” says Kang about season 9. That new chapter will also have a new look which promises a back to basics approach for the survivors, and it is one born out of necessity, for while society may have indeed crumbled thanks to the zombie apocalypse, we will now see it literally crumbling as well — especially after a time jump.
“We’ll explore what happened as man made objects and structures break down,” says Kang.
“Infrastructure like roads and bridges are changing and crumbling. And we’ll also explore what happens as resources are getting low.”
“We are going into a period where a lot of the things that we’ve seen in previous seasons have broken down, so they’ve got these horses and carriages that are being drawn around instead of cars. Things are lit with oil lamps. People are using different kinds of weaponry. There’s a real grittiness to it that I think will be fun and fresh for the viewers.”
