New Line Taps Writer Greg Russo To Script 'Space Invaders' For The Big Screen

July 12, 2019
New Line has hired Greg Russo to write the script for the movie version of the classic 1978 Taito arcade game Space Invaders. Warner Bros purchased the rights to the game rights several years ago.

Weed Road Pictures’ Akiva Goldsman is producing alongside Safehouse Pictures partners Joby Harold and Tory Tunnell.

No details on the movie plot details but in the game, a series of blocky aliens descended from the top of the screen to the bottom, and players basically blasted them until their thumbs cramped, or the invaders succeeded in overwhelming the slow-triggered defender of earth.

I'm sensing another Pixels on the way.

Ah. Greg Russo. The guy that's writing the upcoming Mortal Kombat movie and that would be his first. I guess it's better that he's writing this than Akiva Goldsman.

This has potential but I doubt it will be good.
