Bill Murray Confirms His Role As 'Peter Venkman' In 'Ghostbusters: Afterlife'

Bill Murray has confirmed that he will be reprising the role of Doctor Peter Venkman in the upcoming sequel Ghostbusters: Afterlife. Murray last played the character in the 1989 Ghostbusters 2 and made a cameo in the 2016 all-women Ghostbusters.

Murray confirmed his return in a new interview with Vanity Fair and spoke about the Ghostbusters going on without their fourth member, the late Harold Ramis who died in 2014.

“Well, we are a man down. That’s the deal,” Murray told Vanity Fair. “And that’s the story that we’re telling, that’s the story they’ve written.”

The story follows Callie (The Leftovers’ Carrie Coon), a financially strapped mother who moves her two children — Phoebe (Captain Marvel‘s Mckenna Grace) and Trevor (Stranger Things’ Finn Wolfhard) to small-town Oklahoma, and an abandoned farmhouse left behind by her dead father. They begin to discover their connection to the original Ghostbusters and the secret legacy their grandfather left behind. Paul Rudd costars as a science teacher who’s been documenting the unexplained phenomena, befriending Callie and her kids and helping make the connection between the current weirdness and the events of three decades before. The new movie picks up 36 years after the marshmallow-drenched near-apocalypse that’s known in Ghostbusters lore as the “Manhattan crossrip.”

The new Ghostbusters: Afterlife is being directed by Jason Reitman, the son of original director Ivan Reitman.

Ghostbusters: Afterlife is set to premiere on July 10th.

Okay. Good. But is it funny? Because there weren't any jokes in that trailer from December.

Honestly I thought it was pretty much already confirmed all the living Ghostbusters members would be back in some capacity for this film.

Yea, aside from the deceased, I thought the main draw and point of ignoring the 2016 reboot was the original cast returning as the original characters. Interesting ?

Great news for sure, even though I am far from Ghostbuster fan.
