Paramount And Hasbro Hire Writer Chris Bremner for 'M.A.S.K.' Movie

Paramount and Hasbro has hired writer Chris Bremner to develop the screenplay for M.A.S.K, the action-adventure project based on the 1980s toy line. Bremner is credited for co-writing the latest Bad Boys franchise movie, Bad Boys for Life, which overperformed at the box office and is close to hitting $400 million worldwide.

Launched simultaneously in 1985 as both a toy line and an animated series, M.A.S.K. stood for Mobile Armored Strike Kommand, an elite strike force that fought crime and terrorism, most notably an organization named V.E.N.O.M. (Vicious Evil Network of Mayhem). The brand had the tagline of “Illusion is the ultimate weapon.”

Attached to direct the project is F. Gary Gray, who helmed The Fate of the Furious and Men in Black International. Gray is also producing via his Fenix Studios banner along with Hasbro’s production arm, Allspark Pictures.

Part of me would really like to see 6" (marvel legends/ SW Black Series/ Gi Joe Classified) Hasbro style figures just as figures to display with removable helmets (or better yet interchangeable heads) of the classic styled characters, but part of me thinks properties like these where vehicles play such an integral part of the story/lore the vehicles kind of need to be made as well and I dont see that happening with 6"figures. If I could choose or give some input to Hasbro (if youre reading this) give us 2 lines of figures.1)a collectors line of 6" figures (just the characters, maybe if the property does well a couple of the smaller vehicles like the bikes or something like that) and make these in the Classic Cartoon Designs (maybe have a couple of the movie characters in 6" form but mainly focus on the classic designs)2) a more kid friendly 3 3/4" figures with vehicles (these based on the movie designs)

Both good ideas. I am with you!

This is actually very cool news, I really hope this comes to fruition , because most importantly as many of you are saying it would be great to see a new line of M.A.S.K. toys

but I'm in for a movie absolutely

Just don't mess the movie up!!! That is all I'm saying!

Cena was pretty good in Bumblebee. If he's in M.A.S.K. then fine.

That's true but I don't see MASK toys returning any other way.

You are probably right but wouldnt it be better to have good MASK toys than just any old MASK toys?

It will definitely need to be in a smaller scale. Can you imagine how big the vehicles would have to be if it were a 6 line?

WWE's John Cena seems to be trying to tell us something with his latest post on Instagram.

Cena is no stranger to Hasbro based movies has he appeared in the last Transformers live-action film. Back in February it was announced that Paramount and Hasbro had hired writer Chris Bremner to develop the screenplay for M.A.S.K, the action-adventure project based on the 1980s toy line. It was also said that attached to direct the project was F. Gary Gray, who helmed The Fate of the Furious and Men in Black International. Gray would also be producing via his Fenix Studios banner along with Hasbros production arm, Allspark Pictures. As I have said many times, the best chance for seeing Hasbro relaunch the M.A.S.K. toyline which would likely include a new 6" line of action figures would be for a movie to happen. We won't count our chickens before they are hatched, but it seems like things are moving forward if Cena is on board.

This was not expected...

Nice!

Only problem is toylines based on crap movies don't last long . . . and is a short lived toyline really worth another Bay-Turtles or Seth Rogen's Green Hornet being added to the pop-culture zeigeist?

That's true but I don't see MASK toys returning any other way.

AMEN!...... I loathe the Transformers movies for how much they crapped all over / ignored the personalities of the Autobots & Decepticons, they were purely special effects with minor story service paid to Optimus Pride....... But perhaps M.A.S.K is a property people in Hollywood can better understand as the humans are leads and are supported by the amazing vehicle technology.....I've long thought a very fun movie was possible with M.A.S.K, and of course....incredible merchandise! I very much hope this comes to fruition, and I personally enjoy John Cena so I could see him easily working as Matt.

Ok Cena as Matt Trakkercould work. If this is done well it could be amazing but I have lost faith in remakes being done well so it will probably suck.
