'Green Arrow And The Canaries' Not Going Forward At The CW

by Outsiders
January 8, 2021
The CW has decided not to move forward with Green Arrow and the Canaries, its planned spinoff from long-running superhero series Arrow. The episode Green Arrow and The Canaries aired during Arrow's final season.

According to Deadline, both the network and the studio explored the idea of the Green Arrow and the Canaries on the CW and WarnerMedia's HBO Max.

The spinoff would have starred Katherine McNamara, Katie Cassidy and Juliana Harkavy and would have taken place in 2040 in Star City and Mia Queen (McNamara) had everything she could have ever wanted. However, when Laurel (Cassidy) and Dinah (Harkavy) suddenly showed up in her life again, things took a shocking turn and her perfect world is upended.

Every opportunity Berlanti DOESN'T get to ruin another superhero series is a cause for celebration in my book.

Although, I thought they had written this particular pitchoff a long time ago.

Stephen Amell carried the banner. Unless he takes up the cape once more, whether as the Green Arrow or The Specter the prospect of creating or continuing another Green Arrow tv series seems grim, though I'd rather see him play as The Specter or Ghost Maker since the titular Green Arrow character seemed to have been overexposed at this point.

If only they had titled the project "Too Many Canaries," it might have been able to pick up enough steam to move forward. Darn shame.
