Amazon Is Developing A Live-Action 'She-Ra' Series

Amazon has begun development on a live-action She-Ra series, according to Variety.

The project is in the beginning stages with no writer or writers attached. DreamWorks Animation will serve as an executive producer after recently producing the Netflix animated series “She-Ra and the Princesses of Power.” However, the live-action version will be a new, standalone story and will not be connected to the animated show. This will be the first live-action adaptation of the She-Ra character if Amazon gives the green light for it to go to series.

She-Ra debuted in the animated film 'He-Man and She-Ra: The Secret of the Sword” in 1985 as part of the “Masters of the Universe” franchise before spinning off into her own cartoon series, 'She-Ra: Princess of Power.' The cartoon series lasted two seasons and nearly 100 episodes between 1985 and 1986.

Netflix created the 'She-Ra and the Princesses of Power' series which had a whole new backstory of the character and ran for five seasons and 52 episodes, with the fifth and final season dropping on Netflix back in May 2020.

I keep trying to think of anything that was done that well as "live action" versions of. Specifically older properties that get a "reboot" or "retelling" of an established franchise. People dont like change and when they mess with established properties too much and change from what has been established already, fans of the IP tend to not like it.. We shall see.

I don't know. Motu and PoP have both really struggled to be well done for a variety of reasons across a number of media lately. Revelations wasn't bad, but some of the characterizations just felt a little too off for my liking. The comics just had horrid art and struggled with pacing issues throughout. And don't get me started on princesses of power.

I hope the take more inspiration from the the recent dc comics. The tone should be family friendly but not goofy. Im Hoping they just dont create everything new including the supporting characters as it will get backlash of its messed with too much

I loved PoP too, but honestly I cant imagine a live action version would be anything like it.

If the tone / theme will be similar to the recent animated series (which I did not watched, just googled), hard pass for me.

A new, standalone story not related to the existing show? Is this like Halle Berry's Catwoman?

Yea, the only thing related is going to be her name. Her whole background story will be all new...
