August 22, 2023

From Zack Snyder, the filmmaker behind 300, Man of Steel, and Army of the Dead, comes REBEL MOON, an epic science-fantasy event decades in the making. When a peaceful colony on the edge of a galaxy finds itself threatened by the armies of a tyrannical ruling force, Kora (Sofia Boutella), a mysterious stranger living among the villagers, becomes their best hope for survival. Tasked with finding trained fighters who will unite with her in making an impossible stand against the Mother World, Kora assembles a small band of warriors — outsiders, insurgents, peasants, and orphans of war from different worlds who share a common need for redemption and revenge. As the shadow of an entire Realm bears down on the unlikeliest of moons, a battle over the fate of a galaxy is waged, and in the process, a new army of heroes is formed.

Rebel Moon stars Sofia Boutella as Kora, Ed Skrein as Admiral Atticus Noble, Charlie Hunnam as Kai, Michiel Huisman as Gunnar, Djimon Hounsou as General, Staz Nair as Tarak, Doona Bae as Nemesis, Ray Fisher as Darrian Bloodaxe, and newcomer E. Duffy as Milius, with Oscar winner Anthony Hopkins as the voice of an ancient robot knight named Jimmy.

Described as a fantasy epic, Rebel Moon is being directed by Snyder from a screenplay he is co-writing with Shay Hatten and Kurt Johnstad, based on a story by Snyder and Johnstad. It is produced by Deborah Snyder, Wesley Coller, and Snyder for The Stone Quarry along with Grand Electric’s Eric Newman. Sarah Bowen is executive producing for Grand Electric.

Rebel Moon will be a two-part movie event with the first movie Rebel Moon Part 1: A Child of Fire being released on December 22nd, 2023. The second movie Rebel Moon Part 2: The Scaregiver, will be released on April 19th, 2024.

During the trailer presentation at Gamescom 2023, director Zack Snyder announced that a Director's Cut will be released of the two movies and the Rebel Moon video game is in the works from developer Super Evil Megacorp.

Half of this trailer was slow motion and the other half was characters turning to stare dramatically into the camera.

As a fan of pre-DC Snyder, I was looking forward to Rebel Moon; or at least ready to give it a shot. But this is idiotic.

He convinced Netflix to let him a two part film, all at once, and before its even released hes talking about the Directors Cut? I feel like hes just playing to the Snyder Cut idiots who think ten minutes of signing Scandinavians is visionary.

Hes definitely just singing to the Snyder Cult. Especially since the extra hour thing is definitely because of how much they worship his version of Justice League. Snyder is capable of directing well, but his obsessive fans are something else to say the least ?

you already know theyll be saying its better than Star Wars ?

According to Deadline, the director's cut of Zack Snyder's Rebel Moon will contain close to an hour of extra content.

Quote

The directors cut is close to an hour of extra content, so I think its a legitimate extended universe version. You really get to see a lot. Its just more painted-in all the way, Snyder said in an interview with Tudum. The directors [cut] is a settle-in deep dive, which I have notoriously done throughout my career. I dont know how I got into this directors cut thing, but what I will say about it is that, for me, the directors cuts have always been something I had to fight for in the past and nobody wanted it. It was this bastard child that I was always trying to put together because they felt like there was a deeper version.

He continued, And with Netflix, we shot scenes just for the directors cut. So in that way, its really a revelation because it gives that second kick at the can for big fans, like a real discovery that they would not [otherwise] get. Im really excited about it!

Idk man, it visually looks nice but at the same time extremely derivative. Snyder excels only when other people are writing so Im not gonna get my hopes up
