Renowned figures in the creature feature industry, Gary Dauberman and James Wan's Atomic Monster banner, recognized for their successful collaborations on the popular Annabelle horror films, have joined forces to produce a live-action series adaptation of the 1990s cartoon for Disney+.

Dauberman will assume the roles of writer, executive producer, and showrunner for the series, with Atomic Monster, the company led by Wan and Michael Clear, also taking on executive producing responsibilities. Currently, the project is in its early stages of development under Disney Branded Television.

Originally created by Walt Disney Television Animation, Gargoyles aired for three seasons from 1994 to 1997. The storyline revolves around gargoyle statues that are transported from a Scottish castle to modern-day New York. Upon their arrival in the bustling city, the statues awaken from a thousand-year-old spell and embrace their duty to protect the metropolis, transforming from stone figures during the day to formidable warriors at night, as poignantly stated in the show's narration.

Gargoyles emerged during a period of innovation in animated series, alongside other shows such as Batman: The Animated Series and X-Men, which featured more intricate storylines and darker themes. Like its counterparts, Gargoyles captivated a generation of television viewers, earning a cult following.
