James Gunn Addresses Rumored Villains In Matt Reeves' 'The Batman - Part II'

by Outsiders
December 27, 2023
James Gunn has shot down the rumor concerning the villains that will be featured in Matt Reeves' highly anticipated sequel to 2022's The Batman, titled The Batman - Part II.

In a response on Threads, Gunn addressed a post that has since been deleted, which falsely claimed that several well-known DC characters would make an appearance in 2025's The Batman - Part II. The original post stated, "Professor Pyg and Scarecrow are set to join Clayface, Hush, and Dick Grayson in Batman Part 2."

Gunn straightforwardly dismissed the rumor by stating, "Nope. Totally made up."

Well, the very first Clayface, Basil Karlo was justa B-list actor who is driven insane when he hears that a remake of a horror filmhe had starredwould be shot without him. Donning the costume of Clayface, a villain he once played in a different movie, he begins killing the actors playing characters he killed in the order and way they die in the film, along with someone who knew his identity.

That sounds very grounded to me.

Yeah, I'm familiar with his origin, hence my mention of a "pre-powers version", but again, why would they even bother? It's grounded, but certainly not the Clayface audiences would be salivating to see.

Sticking Clayface in there is a dead giveaway that it was nonsense. Character doesn't even remotely fit with the "realistic" approach they're striving for unless you're talking about a pre-powers version or a slightly more normal also-ran like Preston Payne, but who would want that and at that point why would they even bother?

You can't get away with that much of a roster. I'm totally fine with two villains, but I believe nobody wants a 5 hour movie.
