Yeah, I'm familiar with his origin, hence my mention of a "pre-powers version", but again, why would they even bother? It's grounded, but certainly not the Clayface audiences would be salivating to see.

Sticking Clayface in there is a dead giveaway that it was nonsense. Character doesn't even remotely fit with the "realistic" approach they're striving for unless you're talking about a pre-powers version or a slightly more normal also-ran like Preston Payne, but who would want that and at that point why would they even bother?
You can't get away with that much of a roster. I'm totally fine with two villains, but I believe nobody wants a 5 hour movie.
