Josh Brolin is reportedly in the final stages of negotiations to assume the role of the antagonist in the remake of the 1987 film The Running Man, originally starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, as stated by
Deadline. The project is being helmed by director Edgar Wright and is adapted from the novel written by Stephen King under the pseudonym Richard Bachman.
The specifics of Brolin's character remain undisclosed; however, reports indicate that he will portray the villain orchestrating the brutal reality television program. In the original film, the antagonist was embodied by Richard Dawson, who played the role of Damon Killian, the primary host of The Running Man.
The narrative revolves around Ben Richards, a man in dire circumstances who enters the perilous reality show, The Running Man, in a bid to secure sufficient funds to save his critically ill daughter. The plot unfolds as Richards is pursued by a series of hunters tasked with eliminating him.
The film features a cast that includes Lee Pace, Karl Glusman, Katy O’Brian, and Daniel Ezra, and is scheduled for release on November 21, 2025. Wright is collaborating with Michael Bacall on the screenplay and will serve as a producer alongside his partner Nira Park and Simon Kinberg. George Linder is set to take on the role of executive producer.
