Director Mike Flanagan and Stephen King are reportedly collaborating on an eight-episode series based on King's novel "Carrie" for Amazon, with Flanagan serving as the showrunner.
The 1974 publication of "Carrie" marked a significant milestone in King's career, with the first film adaptation directed by Brian De Palma, who brought to life the story of a young girl raised in a repressive environment by her overbearing mother, leading to devastating consequences triggered by her telekinetic abilities. The film featured Sissy Spacek in the lead role, alongside notable actors such as John Travolta, Piper Laurie, Amy Irving, Nancy Allen, Betty Buckley, and William Katt. Following the success of the 1976 film, several sequels were produced, including "The Rage: Carrie 2," a 2002 television film, and a 2013 remake featuring Chloë Grace Moretz and Julianne Moore.
Flanagan and Trevor Macy will serve as executive producers for the upcoming series.

Studio execs generally fear new things. They feel safe about existing IPs.

This is the kind of thing I was talking about with regards to the Salem's Lot flop, on MAX. Instead of trying to cram it all into a 2 hour movie, they should have followed the '79 tv mini series approach, which allowed it to build tension, expand, invest in the characters and explore.
It sounds like with CARRIE, someone's learned that lesson, and is going to let it flourish over several episodes.
