ToyFarce News: Collector Who Has Zero Intentions of Buying Monitor Wave FURIOUS About Price Increase of Monitor Wave!

"I don't know who any of those characters are, but they sure aren't worth $39.99!" said John, a collector from Michigan, while preparing the clickbait thumbnail for his 4th video on the subject. In case you missed it, McFarlane Toys announced an online store exclusive wave this week...

"I haven't done any research myself, but a guy on Facebook told me about the situation." continued John. "So there's this new DC Multiverse wave based on Crisis on Infinite Earth, which is completely irrelevant today (apart from the DC Animated movie in 2 parts, of which part 1 came out this week on digital). The figures are exclusive to the McFarlane Toys online store, and they are $39.99 each! They said it's a "smaller batch" so it costs a bit more to produce, but still... Sure, you can also buy the whole set and it's cheaper per figure, since there's 5 figures if you count the Build-a-figure, but it works against my narrative, so you shouldn't count it: It's only 4 figures, the 5th one comes for free."

Monitor1

"The figures are all unimportant characters, that nobody wants:
-Another Superman, this one looks old
(Earth 2 Superman, pretty important in the story).
-Kid Flash? I didn't even know Flash had a kid! And for a kid, he's pretty big (Wally West, or Kid Flash, took on the role of Flash at the end of the story, bigger build doesn't seem too farfetched).
-Psycho Pirate? A pirate that is psycho, looks unimportant (close enough?)
-The Spectre doesn't seem important either (nooo, not at all.../s)
-The Build-a-figure is some unimportant character called Monitor, probably a computer guy with multiple screens (I give up.)

More news at 11:00... "Also, Exclusive figures never have a higher price!" (apart from store exclusives, convention exclusives, ...)

I wanted Spectre, but McFarlane is playing this game of making the figures I want most hard to get and/or expensive. When companeis like McFarlane and Jazwares play this game, I just won't collect them.

... but there is much more. Another batch of potential Jokerized material which will soon coming, like Q4 or even Q5! And no, you won't have to deal with the ovepriced actions, because those will be 59.99 a pop. I like being quiet HA!

Well, I'm sure there are some people out there ranting and raving while having zero connection to this line, but honestly, people should be bothered by this. A 60% price increase out of nowhere is no small thing, and that's without even factoring in the unavoidable shipping expense whenever ordering from McFarlane. Would have loved to add the Spectre and Psycho Pirate to my collection, (bored Kid Flash and Sourpuss Supes not so much, and the Monitor is somewhere in-between) but Todd suddenly thinks he's playing in Mythic Legions territory while giving us the same middling effort where we look the other way on issues because "Eh, it's just a $20 figure". Well, that dog won't hunt no more and in no way do I believe it begins and ends with this one wave, nor do I believe Todd is about to drastically up the quality of the product. It certainly didn't happen here.

I busted out laughing seeing this. Kind of describes me lol. I'm not furious but, definitely annoyed lol. Personally, not interested in the figures so theres that too.

To me this feels like they're doing a test run to see what they can get away with. So I suppose if enough people buy in, $40 could potentially be a standard price for all of these figures. I really wish people would vote with their wallets. But people want what they want.

I never respond to these but this one got me. I'm sick of this mentality "Don't like it? Stay Quiet." McFarlane was doing some ok figures with his own twists on them. Problems are: he is paying for a licensed brand that is hurting. He doesn't own these characters. He get a brand deal during a bad economic down town. If people pay these prices it will signal to all the companies they can raise their prices. Sadly Todd just got in on DC when they are putting out garbage material and even though he's mostly sticking to older designs he still had to Toddify them. No thanks, I had bought a chunk of this line but I'm not doing this. They can go to Ollies like Star Wars.

Sometimes these are very funny (often really). But this one isn't really landing. Even if you aren't buying this wave, seeing McFarlane figures creep up from 19.99 to 39.99 each, no matter the context, is pretty concerning. We all knew he would never stay at 19.99 forever, but for some of us this brings back the sting of watching MattyCollector jack up the price until we were paying $50 from Super7 for things that had been 19.99.

Incidentally, if he had included a Power Girl to go with Psycho-Pirate, I would have been all over at least a few figures of this wave.
