It's Wednesday, and you know what that means: ToyFarce review!
This week, we're having a look at the second wave of the new and improved Street Sharks figures for the 30th anniversary by Mattel. I loved those figures as a kid, and seeing them get a 'remastered' version as an adult is crazy. This wave is special for me because it has the 2 sharks I adored as a kid, and the villain! How JAWSOME is that?
The packaging is the same as the one from 30 years ago, with the figure in a plastic cage wrapped by the packaging. I remember seeing those on the shelves as a kid and being mesmerized by them, and that feeling is still there. They're such cool toys! My old ones are somewhere in a basement, and I'm pretty sure they must not have survived 30 years as good as I did ('lol'). I imagine they have either disintegrated or the rubber is all sticky, so I'm happy to get a new version!
Big Slammu was the first one I got as a kid, and the only one I had for the longest time, so it was, by default, my favorite. And boy, did I get a big nostalgia shot when I got this one in hand. It still has the rubbery 'shark skin', with more articulations (legs, knees, ankles, and shoulders, elbows and wrists). I remember Slammy being way bigger and heavier, but I was also 30 years younger, so it might have been me! It still has the 'Super Slam Fist' action, where his arm goes down when you pull it up. The legs were not articulated on the old ones, mostly because they were very top-heavy, and having articulations on the legs on the new ones is a bit weird, because with this one, for example, it looks like his legs needs to lean backwards a lot in order to stand up, which looks odd from the side (photo included). But overall, getting a new version of that figure is amazing.

Streex was the second one I got as a kid, a bit later (probably on discount), so I have fond memories with this one too. I liked that he has roller blades and especially claws (I've always been a Wolverine/Freddy guy). I remember it being called 'Blades' rather than 'Streex' but a quick Google search told me the name 'Streex' was in the animated series, probably because they didn't want to have a character named 'Blades' in a kids show (although it was 'Blades' since he is on rollerblades). You learn something every day, right? This new and improved version comes with extra hands with extended blades. The old one had some sort of action feature where you pushed a stick that came out of his arm, but I'm glad they skipped that for this one, so that he can have articulations.

The gang is all here!
Dr. Luther Paradigm, aka Dr Piranoid, the main villain of the Street Sharks also comes with new articulations. The 90's figure only had the arms moving, while this one has a few more moving parts. It still has the 'spinning head changing' feature, which is still very fun. It also shoots a missile from his laser weapon arm, by pressing a button. It's still as yellow as I remembered! His hook can be removed, I do not remember if we could do that with the old one. A fun big bulky villain!

Mattel has already revealed a few more figures from that line, so there will be at least a couple more waves, including Slobster, Moby Lick, Killamari, Mantaman and other versions of the sharks: Ravenous Ripster, Slugger Slammu. I'm really hoping they get to do Rox, the one that had long hair and an electric guitar, because I loved that one!
