DCUC Series 8 Mr. Terrific

Package Description
Michael Holt amassed fourteen doctorates in different disciplines and was a medal winning decathlete. He amassed an early fortune, retired young and had the perfect life until his wife and unborn child died in a car accident. This life-changing event prompted Holt to adopt the name Mr. Terrific and use his physical and intellectual skills to fight crime on the street level. He moved on to world-threatening menaces as a member of the Justice Society of America.

Appearance 9/10
Mr. Terrific has a new set of arms, jacket, and head sculpt that he brings to the line. The “jacket” looks more like a vest, but the amount of detail makes up for it. There are ripples in the jacket everywhere, and the way the jacket hangs off his body is perfect. Even the zipper is sculpted in addition to painted in. Finally the head sculpt and facial expression match the comics incredibly well, and mark one of the better transitions to plastic in the DCUC line. In short, the body sculpt is about perfect for this character.

The paint application is almost perfect everywhere. There is a little bit of slop on some of the red lines but overall the execution is great. It is unfortunate though that the “FAIR PLAY” is broken up on both the elbows and the back by joints, but it was necessary for he figure articulation. Most of the joints in the figure are well hidden. The shoulder stand out a little bit, but it just makes the jacket look like a vest instead of looking bad. Overall Mr. Terrific is a great looking figure and fits in great with a collection or by himself.

Articulation 9/10
Articulation is standard for the DCUC line. Range of motion in the torso is very good. The jacket doesn’t hinder motion at all. The head can’t look up for some reason, but he can look down just fine. The elbows bend about 45 degrees instead of 90, which is odd since Firestorm could get the usual 90.

Poseability 10/10
The appearance and articulation come together beautifully in this figure to provide some great dynamic poses. He can be posed fairly easily with his T-Spheres, and they come out easily so he can be posed with or without them. He has great balance and does fighting poses easily. He needs some more Justice Society members to pose with, but for now he looks great on display even by himself.

Final Judgment: 28/30
There is little I would improve on this figure except to make his jacket look more like a jacket. This figure is a good example of the great figures Mattel can make when they put their minds to it. The sculpt, paint, and articulation work together to produce a great figure. I would recommend this figure to even casual DC collectors.

Wow!

Both figures look excellent. The only improvement I'd like would be a removable helmet with a Kent Nelson head underneath.

That aside, I'm really looking forward to getting this wave. It's got a bunch of long shot figures in it. ('80's Vigilante?!?) I'm also looking forward to your reviews on the rest of this wave. Great pics as usual.
