Package Description
After being hanged for his crimes, 19th Century Highwayman “Gentleman Jim” Craddock’s spirit rose again – as the Gentleman Ghost. Returning to his former life of crime, the Gentleman Ghost soon crossed paths with the Justice Society of America. His powers and phantom nature make him nearly impossible to apprehend. But the heroes of the 21st Century have always managed to defeat this dapper, spectral villain.
Appearance 10/10
Gentlemen Ghost has a fantastic new body sculpt that fits the character perfectly. The torso has a sculpted vest, collar and tie. The arms are molded as jacket sleeves, and the body of the jacket is a separate piece. In the pants, the creases are sculpted in. The cloak is attached on the back, with the hat sitting rigidly on top. The body is also noticeably skinnier than other figures in the series. The sculpt matches perfectly his image from the comics, and because of the solid color the details are highly visible. The gun too is highly detailed, even showing individual pieces.
The color choice for the white is excellent. It is not too bright to make the figure appear like hard plastic, but it’s not too dark to be dull. The phasing parts are especially important to add texture to the figure. The clear plastic gives him a more ghostly appearance by creating areas of light and dark, which helps this figure really stand out on display. Stylistically he stands out on the display shelf but in a good way. Overall the look of the figure is excellent in terms of comic faithfulness and plastic adaptation. This is the best Gentleman Ghost I could ever hope to have.
Articulation 8/10
The articulation points are standard for the line. The head does not rotate. The elbows and knees bend a little less than ninety degrees. The ab joint has good range of motion but is limited by the cloak. The legs can rotate 90 degrees out to the side, but only about 45 degrees forward. There is a cut in the waist but it doesn’t turn very far. The shoulders have a full range of motion. Overall the range of motion is very limited compared to other DCUC figures.
Poseability 8/10
Unfortuneately the articulation range of motion limits the poseability. The balance is poor because of the cloak, and it’s hard to put him in good dynamic poses. Most likely Gentleman Ghost will be forced to stand on the shelf idly or pointing his gun, but not much else. On a flight stand though, he could look quite good.
Final Judgment: 26/30
Gentleman Ghost is a very unique figure and well worth buying, even for the casual fan. The sculpt details are superb, and the execution inspired. This figure is a good example of the great figures Mattel can produce when they put their minds to it, despite the posing problems.
