Jae Lee Exclusive to the House of Ideas

The distinct and unique pencils of Jae Lee will grace Marvel Comics exclusively.

When speaking about his renewed relationship with the House of Ideas, the prolific Lee was forthright in his outlook. “I've worked for many companies over the years, but I've always come back to Marvel. This is home. The friendships I have here go beyond work. It's an amazing, incredible, astonishing, and uncanny place to be.”

The artist made his published debut in an issue of MARVEL COMICS PRESENTS, in 1991. His work also includes NAMOR with John Byrne, and INHUMANS, for which he won an Eisner Award. Recently, Lee has worked on FANTASTIC FOUR: 1234, of which his pages were displayed at The Society of Illustrators in New York City.

One of Lee’s past projects served as an important artistic milestone: Hellshock, for Image Comics. “Before then, I was a product of the early 90s. Storytelling and anatomy were the least of my concerns. Hellshock forced me to grow if I wanted to tell the kind of story I needed to tell. Gritty realism replaced anatomically incorrect splash pages,” explains Lee.

“We are very excited to have Jae back in the House. His unparalleled skills and his style allows us to tell stories that only he can tell,” says Marvel Publisher Dan Buckley.

Editor in Chief Joe Quesada is equally enthusiastic, as he has a strong kinship with Lee: “Jae and I go back many, many years, in fact we broke in together. The only exception was that he was a mere sixteen year old prodigy. Since then we've worked together numerous times and he was instrumental in the initial success of our Marvel Knights imprint with his Eisner Award winning run on Inhumans. As EIC I'm excited, as a friend I'm thrilled beyond belief that Jae has decided to make Marvel his home. He is truly one of the great artistic talents in the industry today.”

Jae Lee gave some tantalizing clues to what the near-future holds for him. “I’m working on a moody Hulk story with Peter David. After that, it’ll be all out action with a writer who’s no stranger to widescreen comics, featuring a character we’ve all seen on the widescreen. I can’t wait to dig my claws into that one.”
