BLACK PANTHER #2 and Limited Edition Variant of #1 on the way…
With a wave of continuing national press in publications such as US News & World Report and Upscale, Reggie Hudlin’s new BLACK PANTHER #1 ran right out of stores. This week brings the retailer order cut-off for BLACK PANTHER #2, which continues the "WHO IS THE BLACK PANTHER?" six-issue arc.
Illustrated by veterans John Romita Jr. and Klaus Janson, the Black Panther epic is told in cinematic scope with social satire and all-out action -- a take that has been embraced by fans.
“I can’t believe I hit a home run my first time at bat! Writing the BLACK PANTHER has been a dream of mine for over a decade. Now it’s flown out of stores.”, beams Hudlin. “What’s particularly gratifying is that we have shattered the myth that black superhero characters can’t sell. This reminds me of 15 years ago, when HOUSE PARTY proved the then-controversial idea that rappers could be movie stars. Now they’re getting Oscar nominations. Hopefully the success of the BLACK PANTHER will expand the comic book market and strengthen the industry overall.”
For those who missed the chance to jump onboard with issue #1, Marvel is pleased to produce a Limited Edition Variant of that launch issue…timed to go on-sale the same day as issue #2. Both books feature phenomenal painted covers by Esad Ribic, hot off of the Loki limited series.

Also getting considerable national press attention in publications such as Newsweek is the white-hot YOUNG AVENGERS, helmed by TV superstar writer Allan Heinberg (The O.C., Sex and the City, and Party of Five).
“We did our best to protect the ‘Kang twist’ at the end of issue #1, holding back online previews of the last couple of pages.”, says Marvel’s Director of Marketing, John Dokes “It’s one of those things where we do our best to show how incredible the book is before launch, but at the same time don’t want to spoil what makes it as good as it is: the twists and turns! Now that it’s out there, it’s full steam ahead.”
Illustrated by Young Gun Jim Cheung, YOUNG AVENGERS emerges out of the ashes of AVENGERS DISASSEMBLED. But who IS this new team? Patience, True Believers, the answers are on the way.
