We first told you back in
September that
Jazwares had secured the rights to do 6" Mortal Kombat figures based on the
Mortal Kombat: Deceptions video game now available for most major console systems. Since then there hasn't beem much news about this line, but today we were able to catch up with
Jazzwares' Art Director/Product Manager
Jesse DeStasio and get a few answers.
TNI: Will the characters be based on their appearance in the Deception game only?
Jesse: Just the deception game. However any smart player knows Konquest mode as some old school characters, so we'll see......
TNI: Who is slated for the first series and for any further series planned or confirmed at this time?
Jesse: First series is Baraka, Raiden, Scorpion, and Subzero. Series 2 is in the planning stages but the likely ones seem to be Noob, Smoke, Scorpion (alternate version) and Subzero (alternate version). ...I'd love to see Goro....hmmmm.....
TNI: I think we all would love to see Goro.
TNI: How many points of articulation will each figure have?
Jesse: I think the first series has 22. They should all be about that. We are also in the planning stages for a larger scale roto line. Those will have minimal articulation but will be so awesome you will crap your pants. This is my promise to you!
TNI: Will Jazzware be working with any other companies on this line? If so can you give us details on the arangements?
Jesse: Nope this is just a Jazzwares adventure. We did the 2-d drawings in house then went to pro-customizers Jeremy "Spymagician" Sung and Joe Amaro for our preliminary sales samples. Joe later joined us full-time.
Wave 2 and the Rotos are sculpted by the brilliant Rocco Tartamella. Rocco has done a lot of great MacFarlane figures and by chance he lives around the corner from our office. Expect the quality of all our figures to make a dramatic jump once Rocco's product comes out.
TNI: Click here to see some of Joe's custom work.
TNI: What will the Suggested Retail Price be?
Jesse: Still under wraps. If I had to guess, it will be between 6.00-10.00 dollars. Keep in mind we've only ever produce figures for the 4.99-5.99 price point, so it's a new concept to learn.
TNI: When can we expect these to be released and through what kind of outlets: General Retail, Etailers, Specialty and Comic Shops?
Jesse: With the M rating for the game, it's a no-no for mass market retailers. Regional retailers
and Kay Bee are enthusiastic about the line. Of course our strongest suit will be online retailers and places like Tower Records and www.shopafx.com.
TNI: Will the figures have any kind of special features or accessories?
Jesse: Another thing that has yet to be finalized. I can say there is a ton of accessories we have sculpted for these figures. What makes it into the finals remains to be seen.
TNI: Will there be any exclusives or variants for this line?
Jesse: Yes. I am personally overseeing the specialty program for this line. Action Figure Express has stepped up to the plate to majorly support this line. We will be doing a few things with them. Hot Topic has also been great and we've got a special something for them.
Watch for a debut at SDCC.
Thanks to Jesse for taking the time to answer our questions, and now here are just a few teaser images to tide you over. Stay tuned in the coming weeks for more images.
