'The film which you are about to see is an account of the tragedy which befell a group of five youths, in particular Sally Hardesty and her invalid brother, Franklin. It is all the more tragic in that they were young. But, had they lived very, very long lives, they could not have expected nor would they have wished to see as much of the mad and macabre as they were to see that day. For them an idyllic summer afternoon drive became a nightmare. The events of that day were to lead to the discovery of one of the most bizarre crimes in the annals of American history, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.'
Texas Chainsaw Massacre terrorized audiences in 1974, an unflinching and all too realistic account of the brutal, bizarre encounter with a cannibalistic clan of recluses. Most fearsome, grotesque, and unforgettable was Leatherface, one of the great film villains of modern horror. Leatherface is never seen without one of his 'masks' - faces stolen from his victims and worn to hide some horror, a horror never revealed in the original film. As the terror of victim Sally Hardesty escalates, so does Leatherface's rage and determination. Often referred to as the most sickening scene in the entire film, Leatherface dons his 'pretty lady' mask and slightly soiled suit for a nice sit-down dinner with Sally. Sally's escape leads to a showdown on the roadway, where Leatherface swings his chainsaw wildly in his fury, relentlessly pursuing the unfortunate girl. (hide this text)
