NECA's Randy Falk Talks TMNT And More

by Jay Cochran
October 19, 2020
The guys as Fwoosh have once again landed an interview with Randy at NECA toys where they revealed some new information.

Things to note from the interview:

Back To The Future figures are now being sold at Best Buy stores along with Targets and Walmart.

Look for more TMNT Lootcrate boxes to continue in 2021 including a movie. The Lootcrate don't take away slots from the regular retail line. Meaning a Bunny Suit Rocksteady figure doesn't prevent other characters from being done at regular retail. They also are choosing cool figures for the Lootcrate, but not things that should create huge holes in ones collection if they don't get them.

They want to start expanding the Turtles In Time Video Game line so it's not just a repaint line. We saw the Pirate version of Rocksteady and Bebop which will be a 2-Pack the other week and they are looking to expand the line to feature characters from other TMNT video games. There is also the Deluxe Baxter figure. Baxter will cost around $30 and the Rocksteady and Bebop will cost around $55.

Randy says they continue to try and improve distribution for the TMNT stuff by increasing quantities and will do more made to pre-orders when they can.

Randy hopes to be able to release the TMNT Animated Target Rat King and Vernon 2-pack by the end of this year or early next. It will be part of wave 5. Mondo Gecko and Muckman with Joe Eyeball will also be part of wave 5.

Randy hinted more large characters will be coming sold as Deluxe figures. More reveals will be made before the end of the year. They will be doing a TMNT visual guide of their figures that will also have stuff from 2021. They will a version available online, but also hoping to include a print version with some figures which might have new reveals of upcoming figures.

They will be getting the 4 cartoon Turtles back out for folks who missed the original release. They have a great and different way to get the 4 Turtles out this year, possibly as a boxset. Later they will be re-issuing the Turtles as 2-Pack that will differ a bit like with thing like the packaging.

The Diorama street playset pre-order was successful and Randy hinted more vehicles and playsets for TMNT could be coming soon. A full sewer lair playset and van are things Randy mentioned as possible.

The Deluxe Krang will come with extra antennas for the top of the head in case people loose or break it. The Krang will differ from the first Krang they did. Will have a ton accessories.

The movie April O' Neil figure based on actress Judith Hoag will feature photreal technique for the decoration on the head sculpt. We saw them use this first with their Jamie Lee Curtis Halloween Lorie Strode figure.

Randy suggested we will be seeing more movie Casey Jones figures. They can now used the actors likeness, so we will probably be seeing an unmasked head, however Randy said they won't just be doing a straight up re-release of the Casey that is out now.

The TMNT line will be continuing at the Walmart in 2021 with more 2-pack and deluxe figures. They are thinking outside the box with characters such as the flashback scene set they teased in July.

Randy said they want to do a TMNT Movie Master Tatsu figure but having difficulty getting the actor Toshishiro Obata on board for the likeness rights.

They will also be doing main characters from Secret of the Ooze. They have special stuff planned for the 30th Anniversary next year for Secret of the Ooze. Randy would not say we will get a Vanilla Ice figure.

Randy hinted we could see more Mirage comic based TMNT stuff released as a specialty market line similar to the video game stuff. Maybe some modern comic stuff as well.

Besides Turtles Randy talked about Gremlins, Aliens, Back To The Future and Defenders of the Earth.

For Alien they might do a 4th series of Anniversary Alien figures.

They hope to have a new Back To The Future reveal this week for Back To The Future day.

Defender of the Earth Ming, Flash Gordon and Phantom will hopefully ship by the end of the year and be on shelf by February 2021.

I really like the look of that Phantom figure. I'm hoping these are not too hard to come by.

Wait, do my eyes deceive me or does the Phantom come with his ring-beam (a power he only used ONCE in the entire series)?

I was always gonna buy these anyway, but dang, even if I wasn't, these pix would go a long way toward changing my mind.

Now I just hope they're in the Target TMNT end of the 7" scale.

Wow, I will be getting this line... I was a BIG fan of the cartoon back when I was a kid. They even made Kshin's pet Sophy...

Nice figures, but these guys should think about hitting the gym more.

All look good, when the Walmart only 30-day period ends I'd contemplate getting them.

The first wave includes Phantom, Flash Gordon, and Ming.If these sell well then you can expect to also see Mandrake the Magician and Lothar which were shown at Toy Fair back in February, and NECA has also previously stated they have other figures that have been working on for this line that have yet to be revealed.Head over to Fwoosh for more images and some of their general thoughts on the figures.
