If you have been wanting a
90's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Movie Master Tatsu figure to add to your collection then there may be hope for you. Back in 2020
NECA's Randy Falk in an interview said that
Tatsu was a figure they wanted to do but having difficulty getting the actor
Toshishiro Obata on board for the likeness rights.
Well now thanks to a discovery first made by
Montreal Casey Jones & TMNT News, it's looking very much like that might have changed.
You see they discovered a post by Obata's son
Yukishiro Obata made on the official
Shinkendo Facebook page back in March of last year (See screencap below) saying a figure of his father was in the works.
Now since that post was made almost a year ago and we have yet to hear anything from
NECA about this, I reached out to
Yukishiro Obata for comment on his post. He told me that A company is working on making a
Tatsu figurine and will come out when they finish with it. He did not know when exactly it will come out.
Also he
did not know the name of the company who was making it. I mentioned
NECA to him but he just didn't know if that was the company doing the figure or not.
NECA is the most logical assumption of who would be making the figure since I am not aware of any other company currently making figures from the 90 movies, but I just want to be clear he did not know that for sure, and there are other companies who have the license to make Turtle products.
He also mentioned that no one had contacted his father directly about doing the figure, that everything was arranged in a run about way of getting in touch. I assume this would be whatever company doing the figure dealt with Obata's agents or what-have-you, but I didn't press him on details about that.
Now again we want to be clear that none of this guarantee's
NECA is making a
Tatsu figure since
NECA has yet to make any mention of it. We know
NECA is currently working on a
Keno figure from the
Secret Of The Ooze movie which is likely the next movie figure to be released in the line. It certainly seems like there is a good possibility based on what
Obata's son has told us that
Tatsu could come next maybe coming out sometime in 2024, but until or if
NECA announces that for themselves, I would continue to treat all of this as
RUMOR.
Took forever, but I finally came across one in the wild this past weekend. Also found a Platinum Manhunter which I had long ago given up any expectations to find. Pretty good weekend, now that I'm thinking about it.

It's close enough for me! Gotta have him to complete my collection.

Interesting... I just have April and Casey and I think those are accurate but didn't knew about the rest of the line man...???
