I really hope this means we'll get Superman One Million soon

Okay, I actually quite like this two-face figure. Mcfarlane does suited characters really well.

I mean, there are IPs like TMNT that are shopped out to every toy maker under the sun. You can have four or five different companies making TMNT toys at any given time. I don't know why they couldn't let Todd keep making DC even if he doesn't have the master license, but I don't have a marketing degree so........

Licensing agreements are more valuable if you have a decent guarantee that you're not going to have to compete with somebody else for the same market. TMNT is probably the only brand that can get away with the "screw it, everybody competes with everybody!" approach, although even that has some obvious safeguards. NECA clearly has the 7-inch scale license split with Super7, but they seem to be relegated to different lanes, BST has had 5-inch for the past few years but they're apparently losing it to McFarlane, while Playmates has clearly retained the right to reproduce old product along with new movie stuff. Chances are they withhold the right to do whatever they want, as the master owner. I think the majority of other (current) TMNT figures are foreign if I'm not mistaken, which are going to go by different rules and contracts.

Anyway, there are other splits out there, like DC with McFarlane and Spinmaster, but they're relegated to specific scales and clearly not targeting the same audience.

Of course the best thing for everyone is McFarlane can keep giving us comic specific characters (although slowly on the non-Bat related DCU) and the Mattel hopefuls can also have the 6 inch scale back. Maybe itll happen.

I really hope he as the S on his cape, that's the last thing I need to see before I can officially say this is the perfect Mcfarlane Superman figure.

Yeah, it's looking to shape up to be a really good Superman either way, but if he puts the S on the cape it will be darn near perfect. ( It's the same buck as the Fleischer Superman which is excellent, so there's not going to be any surprised in that department.). Glad we're getting this before the end.

I believe that the "Phygital", Page Punchers and the animated stuff have been DC Direct all along since McFarlane introduced them under their banner. I think that it just may be about McFarlane releasing so many figures per year under that DC Direct branding.

Huh. I mean it was super obvious on the Animated re-releases, but I guess I never noticed it on either the page punchers or these... "phygital" (*vomits*) releases.

SeamoreButts - 2025-03-07 @ 10:13 pm

While McFarlane has used DC Direct all along for some releases, I do wonder if McFarlane will continue to have a deal as the DC Direct role in comic shops like we used to have. I preferred that distribution model anyway, pre-ordering ahead of time through Diamond and there wouldnt be any question if Id be able to find it. Of course the best thing for everyone is McFarlane can keep giving us comic specific characters (although slowly on the non-Bat related DCU) and the Mattel hopefuls can also have the 6 inch scale back. I'll likely buy Dr Fate and Two-Face and pass on Superman.

toynewman - 2025-03-07 @ 9:15 pm

The DC Direct Two-Face (DC: The Silver Age) Figure launches for pre-order on APRIL 11th at places like our sponsors BigBadToyStore.com and Entertainment Earth.7" scale figure includes a McFarlane Toys Digital Collectible.

I wonder why these figures are being branded as "DC Direct"?
