Necronominus

It's Wednesday and you know what that means: ToyFarce review!

This week, we're having a look at some of the figures from the Mythic Legions: Necronominus wave from the Four Horsemen Studios. The skeletons from that wave mostly, including the last of the Four Horsemen, Necronominus with his skeletal steed Conabus. Finally, the horsemen have been reunited! This wave was highly anticipated, and BY GOD, did they deliver!

I picked all the members of the 'Congregation of Necronominus' from this wave, because I'm mostly interested in the non-human creatures from Mythic Legions, but I'm very tempted to grab the few remaning knights since they all come with an alternate skeleton head sculpt to 'turn them'.

First off, Maxillus the Harvester is a nice skeleton figure that can have 3 different looks: the Maxillus character with his bone necklace and back parts, a classic grim reaper or even a normal, standard skeleton. He comes with 2 heads (a skull without eyes and a normal skull), a scythe and an hourglass. The soft goods cloak has wires in the hood and sleeves. I opened him first as an appetizer (since it had the most 'basic' packaging, as opposed to the other ones which have a more 'deluxe' feel to them), and I was already blown away! You can remove the back piece and the bone necklace to have a perfect grim reaper (Figura Obscura Ghost of Christmas Future, anyone?). We're off to a great start!

The Turpiculi is a figure that I wasn't completely sold on at first but I eventually added it to my list. It has a smaller build, and comes with 2 heads, 2 extra pairs of hands (big and small), 2 bone-handled swords and an axe. It does look great, and looks like a creature that has been put together using the bones of multiple cadavers (arms of different sizes, different animal skulls,...). It also has a long bendy tail. Let's just say that an army of those would be pretty terrifying!

Speaking of army of Turpiculi, Belualyth, the ghoulish child of Necronomius is a beastmaster and the general of her father's undead army. She is one of my favorite figures from that wave (along with her father). She comes with 2 heads (with and without nose), extra hands, a big skeleton chimera, a skeleton bird for her wrist, a skeleton snake in a cage and a bone-handled knife. The details on that figure are amazing, she has a skull armor on her shoulder, several bones and a whip hanging from her belt, and soft goods loincloth. I definitely prefer the head without nose (more 'on the nose' with the rest of the wave, pun completely intended). The chimera only has articulated limbs, the rest does not move, and it has a snake head at the end of its tail too! The cage with the skeleton snake can be opened. It's an amazing figure with tons of details and skeleton beasts.

The Undead Builder Pack is a great set if you want to have several figures at once. It comes with 2 zombie heads, along with all the zombie parts (arms, legs, neck, 4 pairs of hands) to turn your figure into a zombie, or 2 ghost heads, along with all the translucent ghost parts (arms, legs, neck, 4 pairs of hands) if you prefer to have a ghost. There are also ghost effect parts (smoke for his neck and eyes) that look fantastic on it. It also has a few weapons (mace, halberd blade or elven sword), a chain with cuffs, and several other parts to change its look (shoulder pauldrons, different neck parts,...). It's a fun set if you want to experiment with the Mythic Legions "pop-and-swap" feature, where you can just dismantle a figure in pieces to turn it into something else, without having to buy multiple figures. And the results look awesome! I love both the ghost and zombie versions of it, and all the heads look great, especially the one with the dislocated jaw. I only wish there was a second body somewhere in the set to have 2 complete figures, but I can always 'pop-and-swap' with another older figure.

The last of the Dark Four, Necronominus, has returned and what a stunning, beautiful action figure it is! The amount of details on his armor and his giant bone wings are insane! He comes with his Godrazor scythe, a soft goods cape and attachments to the cape (brilliant work by CJESIM, as always). His headpiece is so tall that he came without feet in the packaging (you have to put them in yourself). That's how tall that headpiece is! It has feathers inside, wrapped in spine or ribcage-like bones. He has many beautiful skeleton details on his belt and in his back. His scythe also has a ton of details on it, including a tiny skeleton also holding a scythe (Scythe-ception?). There's also an easter egg, under his headpiece, with 3 different possibilities (an eye, or 2 mini skulls in different positions), and I got the eye! The figure itself has such presence with its gigantic bone wings and that scythe. It is a masterpiece of a figure.

Last but not least, Conabus, the skeletal steed of Necronominus, is as advertised: a skeleton horse. It looks pretty great, with some decorated armor parts, and shields that attach to its saddle. I'm not sure if a lot of people would get this one without Necronominus, but I imagine it would be very useful for a Phantom Rider custom. They have outdone themselves with the anatomy and details on the skeleton of that horse.

What a sight to behold it is to see the four hoursemen, the Dark Four of Mythoss, together on a shelf! War (Arethyr), Famine (Illythia), Pestilence (Poxxus), and finally Death (Necronominus).

More news at 11:00... There is no peace in death for these souls, no rest beyond the grave, for they have returned to Mythoss as part of the undead army of Necronominus!
