ABC News is reporting that both well known movie directors George Lucas and James Cameron were among those that were promoting a new digital process that transforms two-dimensional movies into 3-D ones.
Lucas was quoted as saying Thursday at the annual ShoWest convention: "It looks better than the original, to be honest with you".
A clip from "Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones" converted to 3-D was shown at the convention, and was said to have shown remarkable depth in the scene where Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi pursue the bounty hunter in flying speeders.
Lucas hopes to eventually release all six of his "Star Wars" movies in 3-D format that can be shown in regular theaters, not just specialty ones such as IMAX.
The traditional cardboard red-and-blue lensed classes still have to be worn to see the 3-D effect, but it is reported that it does not cause the eyestrain the orginal technology was known for.
