Yesterday
Masters of the Universe fans where treated to several surprises with our first looks at upcoming
7" Masterverse figures from
Mattel.
Besides getting some official reveals from
Mattel themselves during an
Mattel Virtual Analyst Day Meeting showing us our first looks at
Skeletor, He-Man, Battle Cat and
Evil Lynn, earlier in the day we had seen an image from an overseas retail website leak out giving us a first look at a possible different
Skeletor figure.
While we still can't say definitively that the leaked
Skeletor image is legit, or exactly what version of
Skeletor it is based on, we do have further indications that it is a real figure.
Besides
Skeletor, that overseas retailer site also posted a listing of what they listed as a
Revelation Battle Cat. With the listing they included an image of
Battle Cat (See below in our
GALLERY). Like the
Skeletor image, the
Battle Cat one is very small, but we can see it well enough to see it is the same figure as the one
Mattel showed during their Virtual Analyst Day event. It is a different image of
Battle Cat from the one Mattel showed, this image shows the
Battle Helmet is removable. So if that retail site was able to obtain a legit image of the new
Battle Cat, it stands to reason the
Skeletor image is legit as well.
The overseas retailer is listing both
Skeletor and
Battle Cat under the
Revelation banner but never uses the
Masterverse title for them. It's still not been made clear by
Mattel if all figures released in the
Masterverse line will be based on the new
Kevin Smith Revlation Netflix series or not. The name Masterverse seemingly lends itself to featuring figures from various corners of the MOTU Universe which would include the various cartoons, comics and maybe even movies. If all the figures for this line were going to be based on the Revelation animated series then you would think Mattel would have just named the line MOTU Revelation.
Since we have yet to see an actual designs for the new Kevin Smith series its hard to say if all these new Masterverse figures we are seeing are based on the new show or not. That oversize
Skeletor that leaked looks more like it's from the
DC Comic Book Eternia War series.
IF that
Moss-Man figure image that leaked out last year is also something for the
Masterverse line, it looks like a figure based more on the
200x designs.
In other words there are still a lot of unknowns here, but hopefully soon we will have official answers to all our questions. From what
Mattel told us during last year's
Power-Con convention, the
Masterverse figures will be 7" in scale, have around 30 points of articulation and have a MSRP for the regular figures of $19.99 each.
