SDCC 2022 - Final Two Of Four Masters Of The Universe Origins MattelCreations Exclusive Figures Revealed

by Jay Cochran
July 24, 2022
You may recall last year during Power-Con that Mattel had announced they would be offering four different single-release Masters of the Universe Origins figures as exclusives on their MattelCreations website.

During Power-Con they revealed the first two of those four figures which were Kol Darr and Wun-Dar. Since then, both figures have gone up for pre-order on the MattelCreations website where they SOLD OUT in minutes.

Well this week during the San Diego Comic Con, Mattel revealed the final two figures which are a normal looking Grizzlor and Camo Kahn. Last year as a Power-Con exclusive, Mattel released a Grizzlor with dark brown skin color in a 4-pack. This new one will look more like the original release of the character and of course have real fur.

Mattel has yet to announce when exactly the two newly announced figures will go up for pre-order on the MattelCreations website, but you can likely expect them to sell out very quickly when they do go up, since Mattel can't seem to or maybe doesn't want to release these things in adequate numbers to meet the demand from their collector fan-base. Yes, Mattel if your reading this, we are in fact calling you out on how ridiculous it is when you constantly can't seem to provide adequate supply of figures you own the rights to on a website you own. It seems like you are either incompetent or deliberately releasing these things in limited numbers in order to artificially inflate the demand of them. I'm not sure which one it is, but honestly neither option makes you look very good in the eyes of your consumer base.

Mattel who has been at odds with Hasbro for decades is following the same pattern. I used to work for a toy company and I can tell you that toy companies in general do not care about the consumer because the consumer is not the main direct buyer - they retailers are. There were many properties we pitched that were turned down directly by the retailers. The company I worked for ETP produced celebrity based personalities and for example: Sanford and Son figures which I personally wanted were turned down in the mid 90's because we were told by Target and Toys R Us (specifically TRU) "ethnic toys do not sell well". The president of the company and myself were very disappointed needless to say. Figures especially "fan favorite" figures of this magnitude should be produced in sufficient quantity. I applaud Mattel for making "dreams" into reality but in reality to the ones that were unable to purchase these products, they are unfortunately still "dreams"!!! I have a 10 year old son who absolutely adores these and plays with these and his toy interest is almost near end. We were able to get him Wun-Dar by sheer luck and that was with me and my oldest son fervently trying to order at same time! We went through the whole "in cart" now magically disappeared - "sold out!". With Kol-Dar we didn't even have a chance and as memory serves he was limited "5" per person. "5" per person??? I would love how in the hell a seller by the name of "hiddengemshobbiesandtoys" on eBay has 125 of these for sale at the current cost of $149.99 each??? I have informed Mattel about this obvious "BOT" situation. But this is ridiculous to me and I do believe Mattel is intentionally fueling demand. I do realize production runs come into play but these guys should realize when they have a "winner" on their hands. I also do applaud them for re-releasing the first few wave figures again. This gives my son a chance to own the original Merman soon. But wouldn't it be nice to have the "holy grail" ones as well?

Oh you gotta be kidding me, regular Grizzlor is a Nobodygetsthiscreations exclusive, I'm mad, how am I supposed to get this? and how can I be okay without a Grizzlor? Camo Khan I am fine without, but playing dirty with Grizzlor, also thanks Jay for calling Mattel out on these awful exclusives, because it shouldn't be this way.

I agree, the fact I wont be able to get Grizzlor for less than 40 imported IF I even manage to get it all just makes me want to quit the line altogether

Wondering if Grizzlor was made Mattel Creations because they wanted to put it at a higher price point because of his fur? Seems like they could have made him a deluxe, though.

I will go all or nothing for those two...??? I was able two pre order the first two.?

Thank you for calling the out directly on this bull!

Grizzlor should have never been an exclusive. He's a main character in a main faction, The Horde. Why this decision was made I'll never know. Camo Kahn I can see being an exclusive but not a normal looking Grizzlor. Absolutely ridiculous ?
