Last week we told you about a story making its rounds on the Internet that Hasbro was in talks with Dreamworks Animation about the possibility of the two companies merging under the name of DreamWorks-Hasbro. In that article I speculated that even though such a merger would have obvious advantages for both companies, there was one big obstacle that might stand in the way. That obstacle was Dreamworks competitor Disney who happens to be the license holder for two of Hasbro's biggest brands, Star Wars and Marvel.
Well now according to a new article from
THR, it looks like my speculation was correct. According to the THR article, sources have confirmed that incensed Disney executives conveyed to Hasbro CEO Brian Goldner that they would deem the toy manufacturer a competitor should it acquire DWA. The article goes on to say that because of this and several other factors such as Hasbro stock falling nearly 5% and DWA stock spiking over the leaked news of a merger, the talks between the two companies have come to an abrupt end and the merger deal is considered dead.
