TMNT Power Rangers Figures Coming From Hasbro?

by Jay Cochran
February 14, 2021
Last March when it was first announced that there was going to be a crossover comic book series from Boom Studio and IDW for Power Rangers and TMNT, we speculated how cool it would be if someone did figures based on this. Well now it looks like we might be getting those figures from Hasbro. JTPrime has dug up retailer listings for the following items:

-TMNT 2 packs PRG BLT PK A

-TMNT 2 packs PRG BLT PK B

-TMNT 2 packs PRG BLT PK C

-PRG BLT A SQD Venus

-PRG BLT A SQD Jupiter

-PRG FAN Boom Shredder

The 2-packs listed are thought to stand for BLT - Boom Lightning Collection.

Now even if the B is for Boom, meaning figures from the Boom Studio Comics, that doesn't necessarily mean they would be figures from the TMNT/Power Rangers crossover series. However the final figure listed shows FAN Boom Shredder. Possibly being released as a Fan-Channel exclusive, this one seems to indicate a Boom Studios version of the TMNT arch-villain Shredder.

Which if that is the case, it would seemingly make it more likely the other Boom 2-packs will also be based on this TMNT/Power Rangers Crossover series.

Only time will tell if this turns out to be the case, but based on these listings it definitely seems like TMNT/Power Rangers figures are much more likely to happen than when we originally speculated about them last year. We will be sure to update you when we learn more about these.

These Power Ranger TMNT crossover toys aren't just a random crossovermash-up for the sake of cross-over mash-up like some of the other past TMNT crossover mash-up toys (aka Universal Monsters, Star Trek, Apollo 11). Thefigures were actually taken from a comic book crossover story between IDW's TMNT comics and Boom Studios' Power Rangers comics. So what mash-up figures they chose to make is in context to what happened within the comic story. Tommy went undercover and joined the Footin an attempt to rescue/deprogram a childhood friend whom he learned had been radicalized to join the Foot. This leads to Shredder stealing the Green Morpher and teaming up with Rita Repulsa. Shredder ends up disconnecting the MMPR teens from their ability to transform via the Green Morpher, so the TMNT and April temporarily fill-in as Rangers till the problem could be fixed. Casey, Splinter, Karai, Rocksteady, Bebop and Baxter Stockman were also in the story, but stayed their normal selves. The only characters left that appeared within the comic story and could be considered mash-ups of both franchises (but aren't toys yet)are the five powerless MMPRteens (Jason, Trini, Zack, Billy, Kimberly) dressed as street ninjas and Baxter Stockman's experimental Foot Elite Putties (hybrids of Foot Soldiers forcibly merged with Putty Patroller clay).

Thank you for that clarification. Admittedly I was ignorant to what this was and assumed it was just a toyline crossover that had no reference. Good to know that it has a background and is derived from another source. Also thank you for that backstory, it makes these figures alot more interesting.

So, we've come full circle. *LOL, sigh*When this comic first debuted, I made the same joke as I am now: They already did a MMPR/TMNT crossover. It was called "Next Mutation," and it was HOT GARBAGE.

I hated it then, and I had no interest in the comic, but when the toys were first announced, I DID briefly wonder if my combined childhood-driven love of action figures and TMNT would supersede my teen-sourced LOATHING of MMPR.

After seeing the toys . . . I mean, they're fine, I guess, from a quality standpoint. And I would enjoy having all of them in their regular colors, (Donnie in Purple, Mikey in Orange, April in Yellow) and ESPECIALLY this version of Shredder in a more traditional gray/blue/purple/silver/black deco, his design is actually kind of amazing.

BUT . . . as they are now, based on the comics . . . I find I am reacting to them the same way I did to "Next Mutation" 25 years ago. Even a TMNT coat of paint is not enough for me to embrace the Super Sentai camp of MMPR.

All power to anyone who likes them. They're cool toys. But me, unless I can get them for a STEEP discount, and I custom paint them in classic TMNT colors . . . these looks, at these prices? Nope, can't do it. *chuckle*

They look good with their helmets on, but unmasked they all look like they have different art style and it looks weird. Im also super confused, why is Tommy in this and why is he a foot soldier? Shouldnt there be like a casey doing some kind of swap like be a puddy or whatever?

They need to get someone in for the PR creative to work on their head sculpts.

SpiderS - 2021-08-06 @ 2:41 pm

Shredder is probably the most interesting figure, hence why they single packedsince it looks like real alternative costume for him.
