Warner Bros. & DC Cancel 'Aquaman' Feature Spinoff 'The Trench' & Ava DuVernay's 'New Gods'

Warner Bros. and DC Films has confirmed that they are no longer developing the properties New Gods, which had Ava DuVernay attached to direct, and Aquaman spinoff The Trench, which Noah Gardner and Aidan Fitzgerald were penning for James Wan possibly to helm.

Sources believe The Trench was shelved because Wan's schedule was to busy with Aquaman 2 and New Gods was stopped because the project far exceeded a feature stand-alone structure.

Warner Bros and DC Films released this statement today in regards to the projects:

“As part of our DC slate, some legacy development titles including New Gods and The Trench will not be moving forward. We thank our partners Ava DuVernay, Tom King, James Wan and Peter Safran for their time and collaboration during this process and look forward to our continued partnership with them on other DC stories. The projects will remain in their skillful hands if they were to move forward in the future.”

DuVernay’s tweet today:

Tom, I loved writing NEW GODS with you. I’m upset that the saga of Barda, Scott, Granny, Highfather and The Furies ends this way. Diving into Kirby’s Fourth World was the adventure of a lifetime. That can’t be taken away. Thank you for your friendship.

I didn't really had a lot of faith in theseprojects but who knows maybe this means they are going to restore the Snyderverse.?

New Gods could have had potential, I also gotta say that the whole Trench movie thing was kind of interesting to me because I love all that underwater world stuff with those creatures, so I'm kinda sad not to see a movie starring a bunch of trench fish men blasting around the ocean riding killer squids and such, because man those things were awesome.

I've got a feeling after seeing how well Snyder handled Darkdeid and the denizens of Apokalyps..Warners realised King and Duvernay were going to deliver a turkey. Bullet dodged.

I wont lie...I'm glad we wont see anything written by Tom King. I'm not a fan of Duvernays either.
