Paramount Pictures has made a bunch of release changes for their upcoming movies and The Hollywood Reporter has the list.

First on the list is the G.I. Joe spinoff Snake Eyes movie, which is moving to July 23rd, 2021 from the previous date of October 22nd, 2021.

Tom Cruise has two movies making the list with Top Gun: Maverick moving to November 19th, 2021 instead of July 2nd, 2021. Mission Impossible 7 will now open on May 27th, 2022 after being pushed back from its November 19th, 2021 release. With this move, Mission Impossible 8 will now be released on July 7th, 2023 from its original date of November 4th, 2023.

Dungeons & Dragons is knocked down to March 3rd, 2023 and an untitled Star Trek has been added for a June 8th, 2023 release.

My guess: theoriginal release date was positioned to keep some distance fromShang-Chi. At a glance both martial arts heavy movies might feel too similar to casual audiences. But then Shang Chi moved from July to September. The holiday season is gonna be crowded enough with Eternals, Spider-Man 3, and Venom 2. So pushing Snake Eyes closer to the holidays risked it getting lost amongst that competition and other family focused holiday and awards movies.

So if they couldnt keep far enough away from Shang-Chi they might as well get out first. Its gonna be interesting to see what trailer drops first, how people respond to both, and if buzz strongly favors one over the other.

And here we all thought Snake-Eyes nemesis was Storm Shadow...

Maybe Hasbro strong armed them into movingup Snake Eyes so they could sell the movie merchandise.

Cool to see Snake Eyes moved up, but Top Gun Maverick being pushed back is a bummer
