Stephen Curry’s Unanimous Media, Story Kitchen, and Amazon Studios are working together to bring the 1990s SEGA video game ToeJam & Earl to the bring screen.
The characters created by Mark Voorsanger and Greg Johnson, center on two space-alien rappers who come to Earth seeking a cure for the disease eradicating their home planet’s rhythm, funk, and groove.
“Earth, their legends tell them, is the Paradise where the music that created their culture originated. Unfortunately for our heroes, not only do they wreck their ship, but they find that Earth is . . . well, not the haven they expected. But the music – that part was true. So begins their quest to find as much of that music as they can in the hope of saving their planet, and maybe ours as well.”
The writers behind Hotel Transylvania 4 and the upcoming Disney+ Superfudge series, Amos Vernon and Nunzio Randazzo will write the screenplay. There is no word on who will direct the project and whether the feature film will be animated, live-action, or both.
Story Kitchen’s Dmitri M. Johnson and Dan Jevons (Sonic the Hedgehog) will produce with Unanimous Curry and Erick Peyton, with Story Kitchen’s Mike Goldberg co-producing. Story Kitchen’s Timothy I. Stevenson, Unanimous’s Jenelle Lindsay, and Voorsanger and Johnson will executive produce.
