Lionsgate & Red Barrels Adapting 'Outlast' Horror Videogame For Theater Release

by Outsiders
October 30, 2024
Horror film producer Roy Lee is set to adapt the Red Barrels video game for Lionsgate, and J.T. Petty, who contributed to the game, will pen the screenplay for the film.

The psychological horror game follows investigative journalist Miles Upshur as he delves into the mysteries of Mount Massive Asylum, a secluded psychiatric facility located in the mountains of Lake County, Colorado. Each installment of Outlast is underscored by themes of manipulation and the abuse of power, highlighting how corrupt institutions exploit individuals for nefarious ends.

Since its debut in 2012, the Outlast series has expanded to include the prequel Outlast: Whistleblower and the standalone sequel Outlast 2. Most recently, The Outlast Trials was released this year, providing an engaging multiplayer experience for up to four players.
