Netflix has obtained a development agreement for 'Captain Planet and the Planeteers', a live-action series based on the cherished animated program, as reported by Deadline.

The project is being produced by Greg Berlanti’s Berlanti Productions, Leonardo DiCaprio’s Appian Way, and Warner Bros. Television, which is the home of Berlanti Productions.

Tara Hernandez is assigned to write the adaptation of the 1990 animated series Captain Planet and the Planeteers, which was broadcast on TBS and in syndication for six seasons. DiCaprio and Jennifer Davisson from Appian Way will act as executive producers for the live-action series, along with Berlanti Productions’ Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, and Leigh London Redman.

Created by Ted Turner, Captain Planet and the Planeteers follows five teenagers who tackle environmental challenges with the help of Captain Planet, a superhero. The animated series was produced by DIC Enterprises for Seasons 1-3 and by Hanna-Barbera Cartoons for Seasons 4-6.

hahahahahahahaha why??? What is up with everything getting a garbage 'live action' version? Just make a new cartoon you lazy ghouls.

To a certain degree it's understandable. Many of the IPs can be secured if the actual owner or licensee is doing something.. anything with the current brand. This is why we had an awful lot of uninspired sequels and prequels for many fan favourite and it looks like we're getting even more. Not that this actual project is looking bad.. time will tell.

Was thinking this. I mean I get te LA appeal... but a new animation would rock just as much
