It's Wednesday and you know what that means, ToyFarce review!

This week, we're having a look at the Red Pyramid Thing from Silent Hill 2, from the One:12 Collective line by Mezco. Also known as "Pyramid Head", the Red Pyramid Thing is a big humanoid monster that torments you in the 2001 video game Silent Hill 2. He has always been one of my favorite video game characters, so I was glad to get a Mezco version of it. Sadly, not a homerun for me.

The Red Pyramid Thing is the embodiement of the main character, James Sunderland's guilt and desire to be punished in the video game. It appears on several occasions in the game, looks huge, creepy and is sure to scare the heck out of you. He also appears in the movie adaptations of Silent Hill, and has one of the most brutal horror scenes in the first movie (which is the good one, the second movie is quite bad).

The figures comes in a sober Mezco box, as they always do (and nobody is giving crap to Mezco about having WiNdOwLeSs packaging, somehow). There are 3 layers of inserts in the box, the figure and some accessories, the mannequin and the rest of the accessories and stand.

The Red Pyramid Thing comes with an extra head, 5 extra pairs of hands, a mannequin figure, his Great Knife, his Great Spear, 6 different blood splatter effects (including some for the Great Knife and Great Spear), 9 little creepers (bugs) and the usual Mezco stand. The second head seems to be inspired by the design from the movies or the game Silent Hill: Homecoming, where the Pyramid looks more 'mechanical', with bolts and different textures to it. To my knowledge, it's Mezco's own design.

My first impression is that he's a bit small... The character towers over James in the game and is super tall in the movies, but this figure feels a bit tiny. Bigger than the Figma one, at least. The proportions are a bit strange, in classic Mezco fashion. The 'head' seems a bit too big, and too low on the shoulders. Also, he looks a bit too thin for me (maybe because of the big head?). The tailoring is nice, but it looks like we caught him on a day when he did his laundry. His butcher apron is not dirty or torn enough. Other figures/statues of this character usually have a greyer, dirtier look. Great details on the main head sculpt (and the inside of it). I'm glad to have it, but he could have been slightly better.

BONUS: Mezco Silent Hill 2 5 Points Deluxe Boxed Set

I also grabbed the '5 points' set that Mezco released a few months ago, which includes 2 mini figures with minimal articulations. The 3.75" figures are nice and have great details, and come with a little diorama cardboard piece that has 2 sides. The Red Pyramid Thing has an extra arm, his Great Knife and Great Spear, and the Bubble Head Nurse has an extra arm and a pipe. A fun little set to display next to other Silent Hill 2 items.

I almost ordered this guy but I am kind of glad I didn't seeing how clean he looks in the pictures. I would have been really disappointed. The grittiness is a huge part of what makes Silent Hill as creepy looking aesthetically as it is. It's a bummer that Mezco didn't go full force into that grit.

Also, props for mentioning how awful the second movie was. I really enjoy the first one even though it does deviate from the games a bit. If I am not mistaken, the second movie is sort of based on the third game I believe, but it has been a long time since I last watched it. Regardless, I remember being super disappointed by it. I wouldn't be apposed to a reboot or 3rd movie that isn't a direct sequel to the first 2. Heck, even if they did make a 3rd one that IS a sequel to the original two I would still be happy! I just want more Silent Hill movies haha.
