Diamond Select Toys The Lord of the Rings Wave 7 Merry and Pippin Review and Images

It's Wednesday and you know what that means: ToyFarce review!

This week, we're having a look at the latest wave of the Lord of the Rings Figures by Diamond Select Toys, which includes Merry and Pippin. Finally, the Fellowship is complete! These 2 Hobbits were the last remaining ones to have the band all back together.

The Lord of the Rings line from DST is a line of 7" figures based on the movies. There are 7 waves of 2 figures (the first 3 waves included a beautiful 13" build-a-figure Sauron) and a deluxe set with Gollum, plus a few convention exclusives. The figures are designed by Eamon O'Donoghue and sculpted by Gentle Giant Studios.



Meriadoc "Merry" Brandybuck comes with an additional hand, his elven cloak, a sword and sheath, a mug, a pipe and cooking utensils (2 pans, a wooden spoon and wooden fork). The likeness is pretty okay, and the figure does look like Dominic Monaghan, but I wish it had a bit more 'life' into it, like a smirk or a funny face. The cloak hinders the articulations a bit, but can be removed.










Peregrin "Pippin" Took, as portrayed by Billy Boyd, comes with an additional hand, his elven cloak, a scarf, a sword and sheath, a mug, a pipe and the dragon firework that he stole from Gandalf in the first movie. The likeness is pretty good too, but like with Merry, his expression is very bland, and for 2 characters that were such goofballs in the book/movie, it's a bit of a bummer to have stoic faces. Pippin looks like he had a bit too much of whatever was in his pipe, als...











The next wave will have Eowyn of Rohan and the Witck-King of Angmar, and Diamond Select Toys has also revealed an old Bilbo figure, a Gandalf the White figure and, surprisingly, a Tauriel figure from the Hobbit movies. If that means we're getting all the dwarves (and young Bilbo!) from those movies, I'm gonna need a bigger shelf! As always, a huge thank you to Diamond Select Toys for those figures!
