DCUC Series 4 Ares

Package Description
A virtual outcast among the Greek Gods on Mount Olympus, Ares has plotted to destroy both the Olympians and the humans who worship them. In modern times, Ares plotted Earth's destruction with nuclear warheads, a plot foiled by Wonder Woman. He seeks only to sow dissent and destruction, and will not be content until mankind eradicates itself through war.

Appearance
Ares has a new sculpt. All the detailing in this figure is in the armor, with no paint or detailing on the skin. The armor is more detailed than probably any other figure in the line thus far. There is texturing on the body, individual threads on the tunic, and many straps sculpted right into the figure. The uniform blue helps some of these details stand out, but it also makes it obvious how plain the cape is compared to the rest of the body. In general though the look of the figure is very impressive from all the armor and details on the armor.

The weapons could stand to be a little more impressive compared to the rest of the figure. The grey looks very plain compared to the detailing on the armor. In addition the weapons are bent out of the package and have to be fixed. Overall though he looks fantastic on display or fighting Wonder Woman and the Justice League. His height along with his detail help him stand apart.

Articulation
The articulation is standard on this figure but the range of motion is not. The shoulder pads restrict the arm movement, the helmet restricts the head, and the tunic restricts the legs. The legs can be improved by cutting the tunic, but it has to be done very carefully.

Poseability
Articulation severely limits the poseability. It is hard to make him look good fighting because of the combination of leg, head, and shoulder limitations. There are a few good poses though, and he looks great fighting Wonder Woman. Mostly though he’ll probably end up sitting on the shelf looking evil.

Final Judgment: 7
Ares stands out because of his superb sculpt. He could use a greater range of motion, but for accuracy and sculpt the loss in poseability was worth it. Still, the score would have been higher had Mattel found a way to not limit the range of motion. Nonetheless Ares is a great buy for collectors.
