G.I. Joe Series 2: Season 1 Comes To DVD This January (The DiC Episodes)

Shout Factory will be releasing the final season of the 80's G.I.Joe animated series on DVD this January. For those unfamiliar with these, the episodes took place after the G.I.Joe Animated movie. If you ever wondered the final fate of Cobra Commander after being turned into a snake then you may want to check these out. The episodes were produced by DiC who took over doing the cartoon from Sunbow. Most of the voice actors who had voiced the characters in the Subbow episodes had been repalced and the overall tone of the cartoon changed drastically. The episodes are considered the ugly step-child of the G.I.Joe Universe by many fans, but still it is a piece of G.I.Joe history and the first time these episodes have been put out on DVD in an official capacity. Amazon has this 4-disc set up for pre-order now for $20.99 and they say it will be released on January 10, 2012.

Shout Factory also lets us know their will be some bonus material on this set. Final details are still being ironed out and we should hear more about that in the next week or so.

Let us know below, do you remember these episodes, did you like them and do you plan on picking up this DVD set and adding it to your collection.

The eps are pretty bad, though I do like the mini series with the Headman - I like it just because of how stupid the ep is despite being a drug special ep; I also love how they made the Headman looking like some sort of pimp

I have never seen this version of G.I.Joe because I was busy being G.I.Joe at this time of my life!

I might like to see it more if I didn't hear about how awful it is all the time.

Thank you again, Shout Factory! DIC G.I. Joe gets a bad rap but I kinda enjoyed it. It still had my favorite character in Cobra Commander and I liked his costumes in this later series with the battle armor and the longer hood with the uniform with the yellow trim.

Also THE HEADMAN and the drug episodes!!1! The Headman is the Count Marzo of G.I. Joe.

I can't wait for this. The Sunbow material was classic and is a huge part of the Joe ARAH brand holding up so well through the years. Dic's Joe cartoons are kind of "so bad it's good". Yes, the animation was crappy and a lot of the characters were terrible but it was a lot of fun. I am looking forward to Operation: Dragonfire, "I Found You Evie" was pretty cool if I remember correctly... And who can forget the two-parter where Cobra goes to Alcatraz and the Commander sings "Someone's in the kit-chen with Cobraaaaaa"?
