Weir And DeFilippis Close Out Fan-Favorite Run On New X-Men

Writers Christina Weir and Nunzio DeFilippis are ending their run on New X-Men with a bang. Their last issue on the title is the conclusion to the House of M tie-in arc in New X-Men #19 and then its time for one final goodbye in New X-Men: Academy X Yearbook Special.

In a special issue to celebrate the run of DeFilippis and Weir, New X-Men: Academy X Yearbook Special finds the young mutants at their lowest. In-fighting amongst the group has led the squad’s future to be called into question. Can they work out their problems and become a team again? Rounding out the yearbook theme, this special contains all new handbook pages of both the New X-Men and Hellions team.

"While House Of M was a fun ride, we wanted one last chance to touch base with our kids,” says Christina Weir. “The Hellions mini was a nice wrap-up to the Hellions, so we used the Yearbook Issue to get back to our core group and tie up a few loose ends. It was a fun issue to write but also a little bittersweet as we said goodbye to the characters we spent 2 1/2 years with."

But before Weir and DeFilippis have their final sendoff, it’s an all-out brawl in the House of M as the New Mutants go toe-to-toe with the Hellions. The two schools have one final battle royale and Emperor Sunfire is waiting to pounce on whoever emerges from the scuffle. Will the victor have enough left to survive an onslaught by Sunfire and an entire Japanese army at his disposal?

"The House of M arc is for everyone who wanted to see a little more action in our book,” says Nunzio DeFilippis. “The altered reality allowed us to go wild, not just in terms of cast, but in terms of action and surprises. [Editor] Mike Marts kept urging us to really cut loose and do things we'd never do in the regular book, and Issue 19 is where a lot of his urgings takes shape. I don't think many readers will expect the way we end things there, but I hope they'll all enjoy it."

Don’t miss out on the culmination of Weir and DeFilippis’s New X-Men run in New X-Men #19 and New X-Men: Academy X Yearbook Special as they leave the kids with repercussions to be felt for years to come. Then get ready for the New X-Men #20 as X-23 joins the team…the New X-Men will never be the same again.
