According to The Hollywood Reporter, Legendary has acquired the film and TV rights to the arcade fighting video game Street Fighter from Capcom. The studio will be working with Capcom on future projects

Street Fighter was released as an arcade fighting video game in 1987 with a follow-up as Street Fighter II in 1991. The second release drew numerous special editions and remakes, making it a fan favorite and the franchise has sold 49 million units worldwide. The Capcom company is ready to release a new version, Street Fighter 6, on June 6th.

The franchise branched out into a low box-office income movie that was released in 1994 with Jean-Claude Van Damme as Colonel Guile and featured a cast including Kylie Minogue, Ming-Na Wen, and the late Raul Julia. In 2009, 20th Century Fox released Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li (2009), which starred Kristin Kreuk in the title role. This movie flopped as well as the 1994 Street Fighter movie release.

1994's Street fighter was not a flop. It grossed 99 million on a 35 million dollar budget. Critics hated it sure. But the movie itself was a hit.

Street Fighter was definitely a flop. It didn't even make it's basic budget back domestically. Keep in mind the budget does not include advertisement (which if you remember, there was quite a bit) and that the international B.O. (which is where the majority of that $99 million came from) sends significantly less back to the studio than the domestic take. It likely didn't see much of any profit until the home video sales kicked in.
