DC Studios co-head James Gunn recently provided an update on Lanterns, the DCU series currently being developed at Max, through his Instagram account. Gunn confirmed the talented writing team working on the series, consisting of Damon Lindelof, Chris Mundy, and Tom King.

Yes, itís true. The Lanterns DCU series is putting together a crack team of writers, based on a wonderful pilot script and bible by Chris Mundy, Tom King, and Damon Lindelof. A hearty welcome to Chris and @damonlindelof as they join the DC Studios family (no welcome necessary for old @tomking_tk, who has been here nearly since inception).

Gunn made the official announcement about the Lantern project's commencement in early 2023. At first, the main focus of the series was intended to be on Guy Gardner and Alan Scott, portrayed by Finn Wittrock and Jeremy Irvine, respectively. However, the direction of the project shifted towards highlighting John Stewart, who is not only one of DC's pioneering Black superheroes but also one of the most enduring Green Lanterns.

Geoff Johns instead of Tom King would be great. I think the Stargirl series was very cool.

Tom King... he hasn't done anything of note yet. I guess he did this which was good ... https://www.imdb.com/title/tt15482680/but otherwise we haven't seen how he would handle any movies.

Johns would make more sense on this one than King, but he is only one third of a team of writers creating this show, and the other two guys have done some pretty outstanding stuff on television, especially in the last ten years or so.

Damon Lindelof makes me excited, he's good at generating ideas especially when he has other writers to balance him out, as for Tom King I can understand his involvement in Supergirl but Green Lantern not so much, he's very definition of hit and miss. I think this is the only project where Geoff Johns would make sense but only as dedicated lore writer guy, since he pretty much created big part of modern Green Lantern lore, and yes I do realize his faults with Green Lantern movie and Justice League rewrites and WW1984 that's why I give him much more reduced limited role.

They've really not done a great job with the slew of movies out so far. These projects sound very ambitious for Gunn. Might be better to pare this down and just do a few first.

Nothing from the Gunn era has even come out, I think it's gonna work out ok. This is a guy that did a 19 page document describing what GotG had to look and feel like before any production started... and he's not afraid to work and rework and adjust things as they come (example GotG 3, which was in the final draft when he was fired and the story had to be reworked until he was rehired), having all these plans and pieces is just setting the board for him. We'll see how things are really gonna be moving once the first production comes out

Sounds like Greg Berlanti is out then. For the best, surely. Lindelof's The Leftovers and Watchmen were absolutely amazing, and Ozark is damn good, too. I'm not even a Green Lantern fan, and I'm excited about this now.

James Gunn took to Instagram to reveal that Frank Grillo has officially joined the cast of Season 2 of his highly acclaimed DC series, Peacemaker. Grillo will once again portray the character of Rick Flag Sr., whom he also lends his voice to in Gunn's upcoming animated series, Creature Commandos.

Pleased to announce the great @frankgrillo1 will be reprising the role of Rick Flag, Sr - the role hell first play in animated form in Creature Commandos - throughout Season 2 of #Peacemaker. Christopher Smith and Rick Sr have a little unfinished business to take care of

While it seems odd they're starting off this shared universe with at least some of the characters being established, I really don't want to see Superman or Batman's origin story again so maybe it's just as well. A middle aged Batman and a young Superman also seems like an unusual choice. I enjoyed Gunn's Suicide Squad and Peacemaker so I will definitely be giving the new movies and shows a shot. How bad could they be?
